Hello all! Happy Saturday! I hope you are having a wonderful February so far. Today, I want to talk about one of my favorite subjects, transitioning pieces from season to season.
Especially after dealing with tiny closets in college, I had to become really deliberate about my wardrobe. I didn’t have the space or money to have a completely separate wardrobe for each season so I needed pieces to work easily no matter what season.
The key for is always making colors and patterns that are typically summery and toning them down for winter. For example, gingham is definitely a summer pattern especially when it is pink and white. But with dark jewel tones on top and dark tights and shoes, this skirt works well for winter.
Whenever you have a summer piece, adding dark colors, especially jewel tones can really help to make it more fall/ wintery. Obviously my favorite options are black, navy, and burgundy but you could do the same thing with dark browns, grays, or greens. Really anything to tone down the pastel. But at the same time, don’t let the fact that it is a “summer piece” limit you. It is almost always possible to wear something multiple ways. Until next time…
As much as I love layering, there are some pitfalls that I like to avoid. The first one is that I don’t want to look like the Michelin man and not be able to move my arms. The other one is that I still want to feel cute and feminine, while also staying warm. With a wool mini-skirt and a thick but girly sweater are the perfect way to avoid these issues.
A new year is basically a clean slate. You can start over on a project, try and pick up a habit, change something in your life, really anything you want and it is an easier marker to use. I try and be one of those people where it doesn’t matter what day you start something new, as long as you start it. But today, everything seemed to fall into place and it was the perfect time to launch the new and improved Lefty Living Life.
Hello all and Happy Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving is probably my favorite holiday because it is all about food and there are no expectations. You don’t have to worry about gifts or anything like that, you can just enjoy good food and friends and family.
This year I am thankful for so much, but I am especially thankful for all of you. You have been so supportive of me and this blog and all of my ventures and I can’t thank you enough. Enjoy this time to take a breath and I hope you have a fabulous Thanksgiving!
Outfit-wise, I wanted to keep it a little more casual this year but still be cozy. For me, that meant this fabulous furry vest. I love anything furry because it not only keeps you warm but also feels cozy when you are wearing it. Paired with a sparkly necklace and cheetah print, this outfit will probably become my go-to winter look when I don’t have to dress up.
Thank you again for everything and happy Thanksgiving!
Burgundy is one of my all time favorite colors to wear. It is always hard to lighten it up in the summer, but fall is just perfect for burgundy no matter what you wear it with. The main reason I started wearing burgundy is that it looks good with my dark hair and pale skin. But it is really great for anyone trying to make their outfit feel more fall appropriate. This top for example, is not very heavy but the color makes it feel appropriate for fall. I really needed a dark color as well to go under this light, cheetah print coat. This coat is definitely going to be my new go-to this fall and winter. First of all it’s cheetah print so I am already obsessed. But, what really got me is the detailing in the back. From the front, this is just a classic coat, but the ruched detail in the back gives the cut of a coat a more flattering, feminine look. Plus, did I mention it has pockets?! Already in love! Have a fabulous Thursday and don’t forget to come by Swoozie’s in Friendly Center in Greensboro tonight to see me and get some great deals at their anniversary sale! Until next time, XO
Hello all! Happy Fall! I am so excited because fall is my favorite season. I love when it starts to get crisp outside, but isn’t freezing yet. Right now, the weather is perfect for me because I can layer and wear boots, but I don’t have to wear tights or a jacket. Plus, I can start wearing turtlenecks again!
I’m not going to lie, the first day we had where the high was below 75, I pulled out my turtlenecks. I’ve been chomping at the bit to start wearing them again and now that I finally can I am even more obsessed than I was before. Turtleneck Thursday is definitely going to be making a comeback this year!
The other thing that I love about fall is the colors. A deep red burgundy is my favorite color to wear. In the summer, it can be a little much, but it is perfect for fall. Plus, it looks fabulous with my other two favorite colors to wear…pink and black!
In other news, my company is officially open through my Ebay page
. Check it out and let me know if you are looking for anything in particular. Additionally, this week on Lefty Baking Life
, you can buy pumpkin cookies with cream cheese icing. Make sure to buy them
soon before they all sell out or I eat them all haha! Until next time, XO.
Hello all! I hope you are enjoying your week so far. It has recently been pointed out to me that I wear a lot of black and pink and not much else. While that is very true, in winter and fall, I do add in my favorite color…burgundy. This mix of red, brown, and purple is just perfect for my coloring and looks fabulous with all of the pink and black in my wardrobe!
We have started to have occasionally cooler days here (definitely not today as the high is 85) but I am already comping at the bit to pull out all of my fall and winter clothes. This whole outfit is full of great transitional pieces because they are easy to layer and they satisfy my fall cravings without being too warm. This top, although a turtleneck, is actually sleeveless and very lightweight. Perfect to just wear right now and great for layering under sweaters and cardigans come fall and winter. My skirt is actually leather which in conjunction with the color makes it feel very fall like. Finally, this trench coat is one of my favorite things. It is a classic piece and looks great with almost everything. The best thing is that it isn’t too heavy so perfect for when you need a light extra layer. Enjoy your Wednesday! Until next time, XO
For my birthday a couple of weeks ago, my wonderful boyfriend gave me these awesome cocktail-infused gummies from Sugarfina
. I have mentioned them a couple of times before (here
) as I have been admiring them from afar for a few years. Now That I have tried them, I can tell you that they taste even better than they look!
As with most things in my life, eating these gummies made me feel a certain way and influenced my outfit. In this case, an outfit with girl pinks and burgundies and lots of sparkles. This sweater has become one of my favorite pieces in my wardrobe. Like many pieces I own, I bought it as a statement piece, but it has fit so seamlessly into my closet. It goes with so many other pieces I already owned and it is super easy to layer.
So, moral of today’s post? Go buy Sugarfina
candy and statement pieces that are the same color palette as the majority of your wardrobe! Until next time, XO
Happy birthday to me, happy birthday to me! Hello all! If you couldn’t already guess, today is my 23rd birthday and I am so excited. I absolutely love birthdays and this year is no exception. One of my favorite birthday traditions is the birthday outfit. And no, it has nothing to do with your birthday suit!
Anyways, every year, before my birthday, I either plan an outfit or buy something for an outfit that I save up for my birthday. Last year, it was these awesome shoes
. And this year, it’s this dress!
I love doing this because it makes the piece feel special and it gives me that extra oomph of confidence on my actual birthday. I found this dress in early January and immediately fell in love. I knew right away that I was going to save it for today. So, I hid it in my closet as I planned my outfit.
I love this dress first and foremost for the color. This deep burgundy is a favorite of mine and I love how the cool mint pops against it. The other thing I love about this dress is the cut. It is such a flattering design that has an old world feel with the length and the sleeves, but a modern take with the keyhole-front vent.
I could not be happier with my birthday look this year, especially since I was able to use one of my gifts (this clutch was a gift from my best friend Kate!). Well, I’m off to relax and celebrate! Happy weekend! Until next time, XO
I am not normally a fan of overly matching my outfit, However, when one component is patterned and pulls in other colors, the matching is actually beneficial instead of boring. Another important thing to do when wearing a lot of the same color is to pull in other colors, like my black belt and vest and my pink purse in this case. This creates some variety and makes the matching colors work together as a base color against your accents.
On a completely other note, my current addiction and winter essential is my yeti
. I got one for graduation and didn’t really know if I would ever use it. However, now that I commute for almost an hour every morning, my yeti is perfect for keeping my tea warm! I make my tea before I leave home in the morning and an hour later when I get to work, it is still boiling. I have been so impressed with the yeti and would definitely recommend one if you drink coffee or tea! XO
