Burgundy and Plaid - Lefty Living Life

Happy Saturday and Happy St. Patrick’s Day! I hope you have some exciting plans for this weekend. Nothing too interesting over here as I am just busy working and getting ready for my busy upcoming week. But today I wanted to talk about something that I am sure a lot of you also deal with…insecurities.

Cozy Knit and Bright White

Cozy Knit and Bright White- Lefty Living Life

Hello all! You might have noticed that I’ve been wearing a lot of white lately and I have definitely been wearing it more lately, but that is because it is so easy to wear with winter colors! The white, I think, really brightens up those jewel tones, which is always nice when it is dark outside.

Winter Whites and Sweet Treats

Can you believe it’s already February?! I sure can’t Valentine’s Day is already next week which means my birthday is just around the corner! So, I am not a huge Valentine’s Day fan, I actually think it is kind of silly. However, it does give me the perfect excuse to bake and wear some red and pink. So let’s talk about the clothes first.

Brighten Up Blue with Hot Pink

Blue and winter white are a fabulous combination. It just feels like snow and winter. However, whenever I wear it, I feel a little dull. Of course, whenever I want to add a little fun to an outfit, pink is my go-to. I just picked up this coat from J.Crew Factory (and it is on sale plus there are some other fabulous coats on their website) and it has been the perfect addition to my winter wardrobe. I’m not going to lie, I was a little worried when I first got it that I had gone too far. A hot pink coat? Maybe it was a little much even for me. But now that I have had the chance to wear it a little, I must say, my new go-to piece is a statement coat. It takes any outfit to the next level and keeps you feeling cute and fabulous even when you are bundled up. Stay tuned later this week for some of my favorite statement coats of the season! Until next time…

Every year, I always talk about how no white after Labor Day is a dumb rule that we should actively ignore. And I normally do ignore it, especially while it’s still hot and then I occasionally mix some cream into my winter wardrobe. But I normally don’t make a statement quite this bold. When I put on this sweater the other day, the thought of putting on black pants or dark jeans made me shutter. It feels like that is all I wear these days and I really wanted to mix it up. Then, I saw my white pants sticking out of my drawer and it was one of those why not moments. Worst that can happen is I don’t like so I take them off. But instead, I loved them. The white against white was so bold and gave my outfit the perfect statement I had been looking for. It was freezing too, so I warmed up with one of my favorite winter drinks…hot chocolate. That is the start to a perfect morning- a yummy drink and an outfit coming together!

As you know, I’ve been experimenting with lipsticks a lot more and loving it. My go-to brand right now is NARS because I love the texture of their lipsticks and they stay on all day with barely any help. For fall, I wanted to branch out a little bit and try something new so I got this dark purple, almost black, lipstick. It is definitely more aggressive then what I normally wear, but it is perfect for transitioning clothes. This outfit for example, I wore this exact outfit in August and it felt very summery and appropriate. However, with the dark lipstick, it is immediately a fall outfit. The dark purple complimented the navy of my blazer and my green necklace so well and makes the white perfectly appropriate for a warm October day.
Other than making my outfit the perfect transition piece, this lipstick is also fabulous. It did not fade at all throughout the day. and went on very smoothly. My biggest problem with dark, matte lipsticks is that they typically dry out my lips and mouth throughout the day and you end up with a dark line around your lips and no color in the middle. This lipstick has a surprisingly amount of moisture so my lips didn’t dry out at all. Plus the color didn’t move whether I was eating or drinking. So far, my experience with NARS has been so amazing product wise and customer service wise. I would really highly recommend them and I’d love to hear what y’all think about them. Until next time, XO

Growing up in the South, I was always told no white after Labor Day. Well, let me tell you, I think that is a load of crap. I hate rules that tell me I can’t do things. Especially now that winter white is a trend, don’t be afraid to break the rules a little. Of course, wearing a white lace dress in the dead of winter probably isn’t the best plan, but a white wool skirt is perfect for transitioning into cooler weather and brightening up your winter wardrobe. Pair it with some dark neutrals and some bright details and you will be set.

Neon and White

2017, winter, polka dots, winter white, OOTD,
If you have been following along here on Lefty Living Life for a while, you will probably have noticed that I wear certain pieces over and over, just paired with different items and accessories. That is kind of my MO. I find pieces I love and have no interest in wearing anything else.

The problem with this is your wardrobe can get very boring and repetitive if you aren’t creative. To keep my outfits interesting, I try to never wear the exact same outfit twice. That can be as simple as changing my earrings or my coat. Or it can be something more drastic like creating an entirely new combination. Either way, it keeps me on my toes and makes things more fun.

This sweater for example. I typically wear it with jeans or hiding under a jacket and have always found it to be a little boring. However, against this cream skirt, the neon polka dots really pop!

I was so happy to see this sweater making a statement and I can’t wait to wear it again soon. Just goes to show that experimenting can sometimes be exactly what a piece needs to make it awesome. Until next time, XO.

Graphic Winter White

2017, winter, OOTD, graphic, winter white,
Hello! I’m sorry I was so incognito this week! We were crazy busy at work and I’ve been sick- definitely not a good combo, but I’m back now! I hope you had an easier week then me.
So, as I’ve mentioned a few times this winter, I’ve been working on practicing what I preach and wearing more white after Labor Day i.e. winter white. It has been so fun experimenting especially now that I have this white skirt. However, I know that experimenting isn’t for everyone, so I’ve been brainstorming ways to make winter whites easier and more accessible. This outfit, for example, is incredibly easy to replicate because a white skirt and a black shirt is an easy and timeless combination. Now, a white base is also perfect for a sweater that feels too dark with a black or navy base. Take this sweater…with a black skirt or jeans, it looks washed out and boring. I’ve been struggling to find a cute way to wear it for months. But the white from the skirt really makes the pattern pop. For me, the key with winter white is to use it as an accent piece instead of another neutral.
Don’t be afraid to try it and if you are nervous, start easy with a black shirt (perfect time for a turtleneck!) and a statement necklace. Until next time, XO.

Hello all! Happy snow day! Here in North Carolina we saw our first wintry weather this weekend with a whole 9 inches of snow (that is a lot for us!). It has been fun bundling up and sitting in front of the fire drinking hot chocolate all weekend. And it came just in time for one of my favorite trends, winter pastels. Pastels are normally reserved for spring and summer, but there is something that is so refreshing and fun about wearing pale pink, green, and white in the middle of winter. I love how the colors jump out against the black coat and tights and how they add a little pizazz to my winter wardrobe. Also, these heels, while a little impractical in the snow, are perfect for dressing up a detailed sweatshirt like this one. Perfect for parties or something a little more fun at work.
I hope y’all have had a wonderful weekend! Until next time. XO
