Flannel and Sparkles

One of the hardest things about having a fashion blog is dealing with winter. First of all your time to take photos is seriously affected by light. During the summer, I normally take pictures after work and it is not a problem at all. In the winter though, I have to set out specific time early in the morning or on the weekend so there is enough light.

Transitioning into Fall

Transitioning into fall can be exceedingly difficult, but with the right pieces and the right accessories, it doesn’t have to be quite so hard. Today we are going to talk about my three must have pieces for fall and the accessories I love to pair with them.

My leather jacket is always the first thing I gravitate to in the fall. It is the perfect layer to throw over an otherwise summer outfit because it gives you the extra layer of warmth you need in the morning and at night, but you can easily take it off. I love pairing my leather jacket with feminine, classic details whether it be red lips or loads of sparkles. The only thing this outfit needs is some delicate rings and a stack of bracelets and then you are all set for fall.

You will probably recognize this outfit from last week (check out last week’s post for the outfit details) but it is just the perfect fall transition outfit and has one of my go-tos, over the knee boots. I was so nervous about wearing these boots when I first got them, but they have become a staple in my wardrobe. Especially this time of year, over the knee boots, a cute skirt, and a turtleneck are my everyday uniform. With a turtleneck like this, I love to pair some big earrings. Plus, now that you aren’t sweating as much as you do in the summer, it is the perfect time to experiment with layering bracelets and rings. I always end up wearing less jewelry in the summer because it gets all sweaty and here in North Carolina, you want to be wearing as little as possible in the summer. But as soon as the weather starts to turn, I always pile on the jewelry. Although I still love my big, bold pieces, I also love simpler delicate pieces.

The final piece that becomes a staple in my wardrobe in the fall is a blazer. It is the perfect piece to layer over a dress for work or over a t-shirt and jeans. It is also a great piece to carry over into winter. Blazers are a great layering piece to wear over a turtleneck or light sweater and then to layer another jacket or vest over the top. Blazers are such a classic piece and an important basic for any wardrobe.
The only thing these three pieces need are accessories. As much as I love big statement pieces, my first inclination is normally to gravitate towards smaller delicate pieces but wear a lot of them. One of my favorite thing is rings. I have always loved rings but I have a hard time wearing them because I have very small hands and fingers. It is always hard to find rings in my size or ones that don’t take up my entire hand. But lots of delicate rings I can do. Here are three that I am currently coveting and would love to add to my collection: Diamond Bar Ring, Cross-over Bar Ring, Stackable Rings.
My new go-to for delicate, classic jewelry with a modern twist is AUrate. Not only do they have stunning jewelry, but they are also a socially conscious company, which is something that I love. Make sure to check them out because their jewelry will be the perfect finishing touches for your fall wardrobe. Until next time, XO

As you have seen over the years, one of my favorite things to do is dress up a t-shirt and make an otherwise classic outfit a little more feminine. With this outfit, I got to do both! I finally have expanded my tee collection from my New York Times tee to also include this new Salut tee. It is so soft and comfortable plus I love the immediate French twist it puts on any outfit.
This skirt is by far my favorite pencil skirt because it has the feminine pink gingham pattern. I love the idea of adding such a detail to a classic piece. It makes the piece more interesting plus it has been so easy to incorporate a pink skirt into my wardrobe!
Another thing you might have noticed over the years is that the one accessory I always have, other than a watch, is my glasses. Yes, they are real because I am blind as a bat, but they have also become one of my defining stylistic characteristics. I love experimenting with new frames and seeing what different glasses add to an outfit. These beauties are the newest addition to my collection. They are from a company called Chrome Hearts and I am so excited about them. The lens are going to be lightened up a little before they are finished, but I couldn’t resist wearing them today for my pictures. I love how big and dramatic they are and they add the perfect amount of sass to an otherwise girly outfit. Until next time, XO

Hello all! Happy Friday! It has been a good week over here, but I am excited about a fun and social weekend starting tonight. Keep up with all of my adventures this weekend on my instagram and my instagram stories
You might have noticed that I have been experimenting with my lipstick a lot more lately. I used to be pretty neutral when it came to lipstick, I wouldn’t even wear it most days. But I started wearing them a lot more once I started working and wasn’t just going to class. Now, I love them and have finally worked up he nerve to start experimenting. Red seemed like a pretty good option to start with and I just love this shade from Nars. It is one of their new powermatte lip pigments and it goes on as a liquid, but doesn’t dry out your lips at all like most lipsticks. It also stays on through EVERYTHING. I only reapplied it once yesterday! I would really recommend these and I’d love to hear what you think about them. Also if you have any colors you love, let me know so I can try them out too…this color is called starwoman, how fab is that?!
In other news, I have also started a new project! I thought I wasn’t quite busy enough as it was…ha! Anyways, now that I am more involved with the art scene here in Greensboro, I wanted to have a platform to discuss all of the art that I am looking at and discovering here in town and in the surrounding area. So, I’ve created a new blog! It’s called Art Around Town and I just created it this week. I’d love any of your feedback and will definitely be looking for any art recommendations if you have any! Until next time, XO

Stripes and Summer Turtlenecks

2017, summer, work wear, OOTD, stripes, turtleneck, J.Crew, Anthropologie, Kate Spade,
Hello all! I hope your Thursday has gone well. This has been the weirdest week for me at work and I am so ready for the weekend. But before we get to relaxing this weekend, let’s talk about summer work wear first.
2017, summer, work wear, OOTD, stripes, turtleneck, J.Crew, Anthropologie, Kate Spade,
As you probably already know, I am always a skirt or dress girl when I have the option. Sure, I love a good pair of jeans, but I gravitate towards dresses and skirts- especially when shopping. This skirt, is the newest addition to my wardrobe. You almost can’t tell in the photos, but it is a very skinny pin stripe, which I love. It gives it that professional, corporate air without being too over the top.
2017, summer, work wear, OOTD, stripes, turtleneck, J.Crew, Anthropologie, Kate Spade,
What initially drew me to this skirt was the cinched waist and bow. I always feel more comfortable with a defined waist tailored into my clothing. This can be difficult to find sometimes, especially with summer silhouettes. But, I knew right away that no matter how it fit, the bow would give me the definition that I was looking for.
2017, summer, work wear, OOTD, stripes, turtleneck, J.Crew, Anthropologie, Kate Spade,
The best part about this skirt for me is definitely the pockets. Any skirt or dress with pockets is a winner in my book because then I don’t have to worry about carrying around my phone. It can just stay in my pocket and I don’t have to worry about it. Until tomorrow! And if you’ve been watching my Instagram story, the recipe will be up on Sunday! XO

My Go-To Comfy Outfit for Work

2017, summer, work wear, graphic, leather, OOTD,
Hello all! Happy Friday! Even though I had Tuesday off, this week has seemed impossibly long and I am in desperate need for some R&R this weekend. Whenever I feel worn out like this, I just want to wear something comfortable to work, but I need to still be professional.
2017, summer, work wear, graphic, leather, OOTD,
Once you are in the work force, or really anytime where you have a dress code, it is vital to have a couple pieces in your wardrobe that always work and are super comfortable. Then, if you have a day where you just aren’t feeling it, you have something to fall back on.
2017, summer, work wear, graphic, leather, OOTD,
For me, this t-shirt is my go-to no matter what the situation is. But, to make it work for my job, I needed to be a little creative. First note, you can totally make a graphic tee work appropriate, but the graphic needs to be ok for work- no alcohol, cursing, or anything- and you probably need to dress it up with a skirt. Even though this skirt is leather, the pleating lends a classic, professional vibe that was just what I needed to off-set this t-shirt.
2017, summer, work wear, graphic, leather, OOTD,
Of course my next addition was easy- a big chunky necklace. When trying to dress up an outfit, a big piece of jewelry, heels, and a structured clutch make all of the difference. If you something bigger than a clutch, go for a structured bag. The cleaner the lines, the better. Finally, a nice bun always pulls together an outfit for me. Whatever it is for you, having a few pieces that make you feel comfortable and confident is key for any wardrobe. Until next time, XO

Pink Professional

2017, summer, work wear, pink, statement piece, turtleneck,
Hello all! Happy Friday! Yesterday’s post was slightly delayed because of a very eventful evening. Details on that coming soon! But, I still want to talk about making pink professional! As you all know, pink is one of my favorite colors, especially when it comes to my wardrobe. But just because you love something, doesn’t mean you should wear it to work. Take this sequined skirt. I am obsessed with it, but there is a time and place for it. And work does not fall into either of those categories.
2017, summer, work wear, pink, statement piece, turtleneck,
But pink can be made to be professional, you just have to be deliberate about it. Adding pink through your accessories is always a good first step to test the waters and see if it feels professional enough for you. Starting with a pink statement necklace or pink purse with a classically professional outfit like a suit jacket, button-up, or pencil skirt is an easy transition. You can jazz up your outfit without causing too many waves.
2017, summer, work wear, pink, statement piece, turtleneck,
If you are like me, and want to step it up a notch, stick with classic work-wear shapes like pencil skirts and blouses. Then add in pink with fun patterns. For me, it is much easier to make pale pink work place appropriate than hot pink. For hot pink to work, it has to be the right outfit and it is overall more complicated.
2017, summer, work wear, pink, statement piece, turtleneck,
Pale pink is a much easier option and is perfect for summer. I am obsessed with this pink gingham skirt from J.Crew. It is so fun and summery, but the cut makes it perfect for a work-place setting. For me, this outfit would be great for an interview or a business meeting because it is conservative and professional enough, but still shows off my personality. Until next time, XO

Big Jewels and Cheetah Print

2017, OOTD, work wear, statement piece, cheetah, mint,
One of my favorite things about being in the working world is being forced to experiment with clothes. Wearing the same dress or skirt over and over again can get so boring and repetitive. So, I always try and mix up my outfits in one way or another.
2017, OOTD, work wear, statement piece, cheetah, mint,
Skirts are a little easier because you can mix up your top, shoes, and accessories. Changing a statement necklace or other aspect of your outfit can not only change the vibe of an outfit, but can always make it almost unrecognizable. As long as you aren’t wearing the same skirt in the same week, this is an easy way to mix up your work outfits.
2017, OOTD, work wear, statement piece, cheetah, mint,
Dresses can be a little more difficult, especially if they are patterned and recognizable with this one. The key is changing up your accessories. The last time I wore this, it was quite a bit cooler outside so I wore over-the-knee boots and lightened up the look with peach accessories.
2017, OOTD, work wear, statement piece, cheetah, mint,
Now that it is warmer, I really wanted to lighten up the entire look and emphasize some of the lighter colors instead of the richer tones. Mint and pastels in general are a great way to lighten up an outfit and are one of my favorite color trends to wear in the summer. I also love the cheetah print with this because it is more interesting than just a plain black flat. Until next time, XO

Neon for Work

2017, summer, work wear, neon, Kate Spade, J.Crew, OOTD,
Hello all! This week, as I’ve tried to be work-place professional, I’ve also been trying to integrate neon pieces into my outfits. From this post, I think you could probably tell I love neon, but sometimes it can be so over the top and just feel like too much at work. However, I am all about a challenge and I think this outfit really manages to make neon appropriate in any situation.
2017, summer, work wear, neon, Kate Spade, J.Crew, OOTD,
The first key was finding the right neon piece. At work, a neon shift dress like this or a neon necklace over black is easy. You maintain your typical work place uniform, but make it more interesting with color. Also, it is very hard to be unprofessional when wearing a shift dress!
2017, summer, work wear, neon, Kate Spade, J.Crew, OOTD,
Once you choose your piece, it is important that the rest of your outfit is a little more subdued and very business professional. Now I am not normally one to say tone it down, but at there is a time and a place for everything and an office job is not the time or the place for an extremely over the top outfit.
2017, summer, work wear, neon, Kate Spade, J.Crew, OOTD,
My go-to when trying to be professional is a shift dress, suit jacket, and statement necklace so it was easy to transition those over to this dress. A light gray suit jacket is perfect of summer because it lightens up your outfit while also making your more summery pieces business-like.
2017, summer, work wear, neon, Kate Spade, J.Crew, OOTD,
Finally, my favorite part of this outfit is my bag. I just got it from the Kate Spade sale and it is absolutely perfect for work. The style is professional and it is big enough to hold my computer and all of my other stuff without being too overly large. Well, that’s all for now, so until next time, XO

Black and Blue All Over

Hello! Happy Thursday! One of the most classic outfits is a little black dress and pearls. Especially after Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, it is impossible not to associate this look with class and style.
With that said, a little black dress can work for almost any situation depending on the style. A more conservative, shift style dress is perfect for the work-place no matter the season. Of course, I know and am aware of this and love a little black dress as much as the next girl. However, sometimes it can get a little boring and monotonous to just wear a black dress over and over.
The key for mixing this up, for me, is accessories. Especially at work, I don’t want to go overboard, but it is important to me to stay true to my style and personality no matter the situation. With this look, I love the idea of adding a pop of color. Whether it is your shoes, jewelry, or a statement handbag, a little color can go a long way towards making your outfit more exciting.
As shockingly bright as these shoes are, they are surprisingly easy to wear because blue goes with almost everything. I love pairing them with black to make them pop even more. That’s all of today, so until next time! XO
