Spring Layers

While I love that we have all of the season here in North Carolina, I have a love/hate relationship with our weather. The past few days it has been absolutely beautiful here. I mean 70 degrees, warm wind, and sunny. While I have loved the warmth, it is just going to be that much harder when it inevitably gets cold again. However, I am trying to enjoy this glimpse of spring while I can!

Salut and happy Thursday! For those of you who don’t know, salut is a way to casually greet people in French. I have already worn this tee once recently, but I love it so much that I wanted to wear it a couple more times before it gets too cold. Dressing up an already casual piece has always been an outfit staple for me and I am so excited that I finally have another tee to experiment with. As much as  I love my NY Times tee, I have been wearing it a lot lately it seems.
Anyways, in my opinion, this is the best time to experiment with different pieces and layering. The weather isn’t so cold that you need a coat or tights, but you can still layer comfortably. With an outfit like this, a cardigan and over-the-knee boots were the only additions I needed to be comfortable. A big necklace and pink lipstick were the perfect finishing touches to make this look work-appropriate.
Do you have a favorite tee you like to experiment with? Until next time, XO.

As you have seen over the years, one of my favorite things to do is dress up a t-shirt and make an otherwise classic outfit a little more feminine. With this outfit, I got to do both! I finally have expanded my tee collection from my New York Times tee to also include this new Salut tee. It is so soft and comfortable plus I love the immediate French twist it puts on any outfit.
This skirt is by far my favorite pencil skirt because it has the feminine pink gingham pattern. I love the idea of adding such a detail to a classic piece. It makes the piece more interesting plus it has been so easy to incorporate a pink skirt into my wardrobe!
Another thing you might have noticed over the years is that the one accessory I always have, other than a watch, is my glasses. Yes, they are real because I am blind as a bat, but they have also become one of my defining stylistic characteristics. I love experimenting with new frames and seeing what different glasses add to an outfit. These beauties are the newest addition to my collection. They are from a company called Chrome Hearts and I am so excited about them. The lens are going to be lightened up a little before they are finished, but I couldn’t resist wearing them today for my pictures. I love how big and dramatic they are and they add the perfect amount of sass to an otherwise girly outfit. Until next time, XO

Hello all! While I typically don’t do TBT and all of those things, with homecoming for Wake Forest this weekend, I have been thinking a lot about my time in college lately. Looking back, most of my memories from college and about college are positive, but that doesn’t mean it was all sunshine and rainbows. There were definite ups and downs and some things that I know now that I wish I had known then. So, here are some of things that I wish I had known and some of the advice I would give to those currently in college.
1. Don’t be afraid to be scared. College is scary, you are starting a completely new and different chapter in your life that could have a huge impact on your future. But don’t let that hold you back. As a freshman, I felt like everyone else had it figured out and I was just floundering along. Trust me, every one else is just as confused, nervous, and scared as you. Do the best you can and be yourself. You’ll be fine.
2. Go to class. I know this sounds stupid but I know so many people who would blow off class and not do their work. You are only hurting yourself. Your teachers don’t care if you don’t come. So make the effort. You will thank yourself later.
3. Get out of your dorm room. As fabulous as your bed is and unlimited netflix and cookie dough ice cream, leave your room. Go to parties, make new friends, try clubs and activities. Being involved in your campus community is one of the best parts of college, so take advantage of it!
4. Take the classes that sound interesting. I started college taking all of the classes I thought I was “supposed” to be taking. But the classes that I excelled in and actually enjoyed and turned into my major were not the ones I was “supposed” to be taking. They were the ones I signed up for on a whim because they sounded interesting. College is all about finding your passion and what you want to do with your life. So throw out that “supposed to” rule book and do what you want. You’ll be much happier in the long run.
5. Be your self. Finally, just be yourself. When I first got to Wake, I was so worried about finding friends and being what everyone wanted me to be. I wasn’t fully happy until I stopped worrying about all of that and just did what I wanted. For me, that meant spending time with my friends for movie night instead of going to a frat party and studying art history instead of business. And now, I couldn’t be more thankful. Imagining my life if I had been a business major makes me cringe so you do you.
My last word of advice is don’t be afraid to ask for advice. Whether it is your school counselor or a company like Earnest that can help with refinancing your student loans, asking for help never hurt anyone. Until next time, XO
P.S. I wore outfits like this all of the time to class…dress well test well my friends!

Summer Style Review

Hello all! Typically for me, Labor Day is just a nice day off. It doesn’t necessarily mark the end of summer and it normally is hot for at least a few more weeks here in North Carolina. While I am sure we will have more warm weather, right now, it definitely feels like fall! As excited I am about a change in season and the chance to wear some fall clothes and layers, there are definitely some summer styles that I will be sad to say goodbye to. So, let’s look back at some of my favorite looks and styles from this summer!
2017, summer, style, review, OOTD, ruffles, off-the-shoulder, t-shirt, pink, stripes, red lips, sequins,

1. Hot pink, especially hot pink lipstick and accessories was a huge trend for me this year. I loved being able to spice up an outfit with a bright color and make some of my more serious outfits more girly. Hopefully I will be able to carry this trend into fall and winter!

2.     Off-the-shoulderwas my big fashion risk this year. This style was definitely a little out of my comfort zone, but I had fun experimenting with it and making it my own…i.e. making it girly whenever possible!

3.     With my full-time job and now a new job with a nicer dress code, work wear was something that I was experimenting a lot. I loved mixing and matching with this gingham pencil skirt and other classic work wear shapes, but in a more feminine way.

4.     Let’s be honest, sequins and anything sparkly are always a trend for me. This sequined skirt was so fun to mix and match whether it was a casual t-shirt or a button-down. I can’t wait to wear this with a big slouchy sweater and boots this fall!

5.     I always try and incorporate patterns into my wardrobe, but it doesn’t always work well. This summer, I had no trouble incorporating stripes. It seemed like every other day I was wearing stripes! I love a red stripe with a bold red lip and I am definitely going to be rocking this look through fall.

6.     I would typically describe my look as classic and feminine. I love taking a casual t-shirtand dressing it up and making it girly. For my 5-year blog birthday, I definitely did that with my favorite graphic tee, a tuxedo jacket, and pink pumps. This is probably my go-to look, no matter what the situation.

 7. Finally, I loved my bodysuit this year. Who would have thought that I would buy an off-the-shoulder bodysuit?! Out of my comfort zone in every way because it’s off the shoulder and super skin-tight. But, I have probably worn it more than anything else this summer! Now, if I only I could find a turtleneck bodysuit!

Not Just a Black T-Shirt

2017, summer, black, t-shirt, statement piece, OOTD,
There are some pieces that you can always rely on and can’t go wrong with. A black top for example, which is the basis for any wardrobe is one such piece. It is important to have a simple black t-shirt when you just want to throw one on, but it is equally important to have one with a little detail. I like this one because the little ruffle detail is subtle but makes it look complete without a cardigan or a jacket.
2017, summer, black, t-shirt, statement piece, OOTD,
This kind of top is perfect for experimenting with statement necklaces because you essentially have a blank canvas. Almost any jewelry you wear will look good against black. I like to wear lighter colors that will really stand out against the black, especially pastels. This not only softens up the harsh black but also helps your jewelry make even more of a statement.
2017, summer, black, t-shirt, statement piece, OOTD,
Especially at this time of year, you want to lighten up your black top a little bit with lighter bottoms whether it is a colored skirt or shorts or lighter wash jeans. I’ve never been a fan of the super light-wash jeans, but these mid-range wash work just fine for me when I am wearing a lighter top or looking to mix up my typically dark jeans look.
2017, summer, black, t-shirt, statement piece, OOTD,
Once you have the top and bottom figured out, it is all about accessories…in this case, shoes and a purse. I love a dark chunky heel. There is something so classic about it and it instantly makes my outfit. I just recently got these as my “anesthesia shoes” after some medical procedures. Check back at this post for the whole “anesthesia shoe” story. But they are absolutely fabulous. The heel height is perfect and I love the suede and pointed toe.
2017, summer, black, t-shirt, statement piece, OOTD,
The finishing touch for this outfit was just a little pop of color with my bag. I’ve been wearing a lot of neon and decided to take a slight break, so pastel pink was the perfect solution. Until next time, XO

Dressing Up a T-Shirt for Five Years

2017, summer, t-shirt, statement piece, sparkly, pink, OOTD,
Hello all! Happy Sunday! Today is Lefty Living Life’s five year anniversary, can you believe it? It seems like just yesterday I decided to start a blog with no plan, no vision, and absolutely no idea what I was doing. We’ve come a long way in five years and I want to take this time to say thank you. Your support, continued following, and feedback mean the world to me and make this whole process so much more fun! So thank you for sticking with me and here’s to another five years!
2017, summer, t-shirt, statement piece, sparkly, pink, OOTD,
With today marking five years, it seemed only fitting that I wear one of the pieces that has been with me for almost the entire time. This New York Times graphic tee is by far one of my favorite pieces in my closet and it is one of those pieces that I keep coming back to time and time again.
2017, summer, t-shirt, statement piece, sparkly, pink, OOTD,
Normally, I would say I’m not a t-shirt girl. But if there is any tie between my outfits and my style over the years, it is that there is no such thing as too many sparkles and I love dressing up an outfit. Whether it is dressing up jeans and a t-shirt or a sundress, I love experimenting and finding ways to make my outfits a little nicer and a little more sparkly.
2017, summer, t-shirt, statement piece, sparkly, pink, OOTD,
The inspiration for this probably all comes from my high school English class when I was introduced to Oscar Wilde. Wilde has become one of my favorite authors and my favorite quote is from him: “You can never be overdressed or over educated.” I connected immediately with this quote because I always seem to overshoot the mark when it comes to formality whether I am trying to or not.
2017, summer, t-shirt, statement piece, sparkly, pink, OOTD,
This t-shirt for example, is perfect for dressing up. The neutral color palette makes it easy to pair with almost anything whether it is a tulle skirt, lots of pink, or big earrings and a suit jacket. Suit jackets are great whether you are wearing them to work or otherwise. I love the look of a t-shirt and big jewels with a jacket. There is something so classic but fun about it, that is right up my alley.

So, thank you again for sticking with me these past five years and have a fabulous Sunday! XO

Hello all and Merry Christmas! I won’t say too much today but Merry Christmas and I hope you are enjoying this wonderful day! With my Christmas outfits, I always try and include a little red or green without going too over board. This tartan skirt was perfect for today especially with my New York Times t-shirt. I also love the tartan against this patterned clutch, which is actually made from painted canvases! Such a fun accessory and a great conversation piece for any holiday parties you might have! Finally, my lipstick and my necklace are both new and courtesy of my Zoe Report Box of Style. This is one of my favorite subscription boxes and I would definitely recommend it.
Well, time to get back to the family! Merry Christmas! XO

Sparkly Flamingos

Flamingos have never really been on on my radar before and I don’t know how I missed them! I mean, they are pink, what’s not to love?! I fell in love with this shirt when I saw it because of the pink sequins. However, I also love embellished t-shirts that I can dress-up. As y’all know, I don’t really do casual, but that doesn’t mean I don’t love t-shirts and comfy clothes. I love pairing t-shirts with giant necklaces or skirts. It always feels unexpected and adds that little extra pop I’m always looking for to my outfit. XO

T-Shirts and Pink

This outfit might be one of my new all-time favorites because it has all of my favorite elements: my NYT t-shirt, sparkles, pink, and it’s nice and girly. This t-shirt was kind of an impulse purchase three years ago and it has been one of my go-tos since then! Obviously for any outfit to be my favorite, there need to be sparkles, lots of sparkles, and this necklace is perfect for that. This skirt is a new addition to my wardrobe, but it’s pink so obviously I love it and I am probably going to be wearing it a lot.
I think this outfit might also be lucky not only because it has so many of my favorite outfit elements, but also because I received my job offer wearing this outfit! So I will definitely be wearing this whenever I need a little extra luck in the future! XO
