We are definitely getting winter over here on the east coast, which has meant lots of layering for me. Now I love layering with patterns, but I also love layering with colors. Layering is such a great way to experiment with different color combinations or add a little something extra to an otherwise quiet outfit.

Take this outfit for example. On their own, all of these pieces are what I consider my base pieces. For me, that means items of clothing that on their own are a little boring. They need a little something extra and have lots of room for big jewelry or otherwise bold accessories.

By layering otherwise simple pieces together, you don’t even need the bold accessories. I love how the textures play off of each other and the colors, although very different work well together. This is one of the great benefits of layers…you can create an outfit like this or experiment with any kind of outfit and sometimes find the perfect combination of pieces.
