Book Review: Educated by Tara Westover

I’ve been thinking of doing more book related content here for a while because I love books and I read a lot! Plus I love talking about books with people. Today, I wanted to start with one of my favorite books I read this year, Educated by Tara Westover.

If you look at book lists or recommendations, you have probably heard about this book and might have even read it. If you haven’t, go get it from the library or order it from amazon right now.

I read a lot of non-fiction so in that way, this new memoir is in my wheel-house. However, I very rarely read contemporary non-fiction. But this makes me want to learn more.

I don’t really want to tell you much because I think going in with an open mind is just what this book needs. I was told by some friends that it was “cult-adjacent” but this is really misleading if you ask me. This is Westover’s story of growing up until now (she’s 33). She had a very unconventional and dangerous childhood, but has managed to come out the other side. Her insight into family, education, and taking your own path is inspiring while also being extremely upsetting and poignant.

So, if you are going to read one book this year, read this one. You won’t regret it.

XO, T

P.S. if you want to see what else I’m reading, check out my goodreads page!
