Can we stop talking about weight?

Can we stop talking about weight?

Hi 👋🏻 my name is Taylor and 90% of the time I hate my body.

I have a thing called body dysmorphia. Basically one this means is that I only can see the so called “flaws” when I look in the mirror and I end up obsessing over them.

But, this morning, I was listening to the newest episode of Boob Sweat (one of my favorite podcasts) and they were talking about weight gain, diet culture, and body image and they said something that really hit me: you are meant to do more with your life than pay rent and lose weight.

This really hit me in the feels because so much of my mental power is always focused on how I look. But why? So I’m trying to make a conscious effort to stop. They were also talking about how being “skinny” (whatever that means) does not mean you are healthy.

Can we stop talking about weight?

Have I gained weight over the last few years? Absolutely. But before then, my organs were literally failing, I had to have one removed, I felt terrible all the time, I couldn’t eat anything, and I was sick.

So what? I gained some weight! But I feel better now than I have in years, I’m no longer unhealthy, and you can’t see my ribs through my back anymore. Seems like an accomplishment if you ask me.

So maybe let’s stop talking about it and spend all of our incredible brain power thinking and doing something else.

XO, T
