Patterns in Blue - Lefty Living Life

Hello all! Man have I been slacking! Other than work, I don’t even have a good excuse, but I’m back now and have a lot to talk about today.

First thing’s first, I just wanted to take a second to honor Kate Spade. She was such an inspiring woman and created an incredible brand that has definitely shaped my style and my closet. Mental illness is such a serious issue and you should never be afraid to reach out if you need help. You are not alone. I was so saddened to hear of her passing. Kate Spade will be missed and it is an honor to own a small product of her creativity.

Now, on to happier, brighter topics. This outfit is one of my favorite ones of late and it is such a great example of how to rock two different styles. First, tea length skirts/ dresses. For me, I always have to wear these with heels. Anything else and I feel super duper frumpy.

In my opinion, any one can rock any style, it’s all in how you do it. Whenever you are getting dressed or trying something on, listen to your instincts…color makes you feel weird, say no. Doesn’t feel right, say no. But if it makes you feel frumpy, more times than not you can fix that. For me, adding heels and making sure the other parts of my outfit are fitted helps decrease the frumpy factor of any piece, especially a tea length skirt or dress. Sure, I’m pretty tall, but sometimes I just need that extra height to really feel like I can rock a piece.

Another easy style to pull off? Mixing patterns. I know, I talk about mixing patterns all the time. But that is because it is so easy! It feels so intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be at all. If you are feeling intimidated by all of this, remember to start off easy and the easiest way to do that is by simplifying your color palette. With a look like this, the only really prevalent colors are blue and white. By taking out other colors, you guarantee that your pieces match even though the patterns conflict. This will make your outfit pleasing to the eye, without overwhelming.
