As you have seen over the years, one of my favorite things to do is dress up a t-shirt and make an otherwise classic outfit a little more feminine. With this outfit, I got to do both! I finally have expanded my tee collection from my New York Times tee to also include this new Salut tee. It is so soft and comfortable plus I love the immediate French twist it puts on any outfit.
This skirt is by far my favorite pencil skirt because it has the feminine pink gingham pattern. I love the idea of adding such a detail to a classic piece. It makes the piece more interesting plus it has been so easy to incorporate a pink skirt into my wardrobe!
Another thing you might have noticed over the years is that the one accessory I always have, other than a watch, is my glasses. Yes, they are real because I am blind as a bat, but they have also become one of my defining stylistic characteristics. I love experimenting with new frames and seeing what different glasses add to an outfit. These beauties are the newest addition to my collection. They are from a company called Chrome Hearts and I am so excited about them. The lens are going to be lightened up a little before they are finished, but I couldn’t resist wearing them today for my pictures. I love how big and dramatic they are and they add the perfect amount of sass to an otherwise girly outfit. Until next time, XO
One of my favorite things to do is be able to style a certain piece so it is perfect for two completely different situations. These pants for instance. At first, they are super boho, which is a little out of my comfort zone, but I love it. They are also perfect for dressing up because it is almost like wearing a maxi skirt. As soon as I saw them, I knew I wanted to do a post about styling them, so here goes.
For the first look, I really wanted to enhance the boho vibe and it was just what I needed for a food truck festival I recently attended. The tank top and the necklace were my two constants with the outfits. So, I added a tied chambray to dress it down and add a little more to the boho vibe. Plus, with the flowy-ness of the pants, I wanted something to enhance my waist a little and the tied shirt acted as a belt. A cute headband and girly sneakers were the perfect way to finish this look.
For the second look, I wanted to make an outfit that was good for a date or a night out. Heels were obviously a must and the tuxedo jacket was the perfect way to finish the look off. A sparkly clutch and pink lips were the girly details that I needed to make this outfit more me.
Being able to change the look of a certain piece can be hard, but it is normally worth the effort. How would you have worn these pants? Until next time, XO.
Hello all! Not much to say this morning as I am very behind on a lot of things, but I will have some exciting announcements this weekend so stay tuned! Is this top not the cutest? I just picked it up in the sale room at Anthropologie and am already in love! Until next time, XO
Hello! These past couple of days have been a little hectic to say the least and I needed a bit of a blogging break, but I’m back with lots of new posts on the way! Happily, we are starting to get the touches of fall here in North Carolina. For us, that means it could be 40 in the morning and 80 in the afternoon or 60 one day and 85 the next. This makes it very hard to plan ahead, but very fun to mix and match summer and fall clothes.
I just picked up this sweater and am in love. It is so soft and comfy and I’ve already worn it twice! I love mixing things like this heavy knit with this summery mini-skirt. The juxtaposition is so interesting and unexpected, but perfect for this time of year. Do you have a go-to outfit formula for fall clothes? Until next time, XO
Hello all! Happy Friday! It is crazy, but it already feels like fall here. A lot of that is probably because of all of the weather fronts we are getting, but it has been fun to start experimenting with fall clothes. As excited as I am about fall, I am sure there are still going to be quite a few opportunities for me to wear summer clothes and I still have a couple summer outfits to share with you!
This one might be one of my favorite outfits I’ve worn lately. The sassy sequin skirt with the classic white button down is just the perfect representation of my style. One of my friends commented on my instagram that it was half mermaid, half sailor, which I absolutely love. My idea of the perfect outfit is one that is sassy and girly, but also classic and this fits the bill to a tee! Until next time, XO
Hello all! Typically for me, Labor Day is just a nice day off. It doesn’t necessarily mark the end of summer and it normally is hot for at least a few more weeks here in North Carolina. While I am sure we will have more warm weather, right now, it definitely feels like fall! As excited I am about a change in season and the chance to wear some fall clothes and layers, there are definitely some summer styles that I will be sad to say goodbye to. So, let’s look back at some of my favorite looks and styles from this summer!
1. Hot pink, especially hot pink lipstick and accessories was a huge trend for me this year. I loved being able to spice up an outfit with a bright color and make some of my more serious outfits more girly. Hopefully I will be able to carry this trend into fall and winter!
2. Off-the-shoulderwas my big fashion risk this year. This style was definitely a little out of my comfort zone, but I had fun experimenting with it and making it my own…i.e. making it girly whenever possible!
3. With my full-time job and now a new job with a nicer dress code, work wear was something that I was experimenting a lot. I loved mixing and matching with this gingham pencil skirt and other classic work wear shapes, but in a more feminine way.
4. Let’s be honest, sequins and anything sparkly are always a trend for me. This sequined skirt was so fun to mix and match whether it was a casual t-shirt or a button-down. I can’t wait to wear this with a big slouchy sweater and boots this fall!
5. I always try and incorporate patterns into my wardrobe, but it doesn’t always work well. This summer, I had no trouble incorporating stripes. It seemed like every other day I was wearing stripes! I love a red stripe with a bold red lip and I am definitely going to be rocking this look through fall.
6. I would typically describe my look as classic and feminine. I love taking a casual t-shirtand dressing it up and making it girly. For my 5-year blog birthday, I definitely did that with my favorite graphic tee, a tuxedo jacket, and pink pumps. This is probably my go-to look, no matter what the situation.
7. Finally, I loved my bodysuit this year. Who would have thought that I would buy an off-the-shoulder bodysuit?! Out of my comfort zone in every way because it’s off the shoulder and super skin-tight. But, I have probably worn it more than anything else this summer! Now, if I only I could find a turtleneck bodysuit!
Enjoy the last of summer weather while you can and until next time, XO
Hello all! Happy Friday, especially because it is the start of a long weekend! Do you have any fun Labor Day plans? I am actually going to be very social this weekend in addition to my usual weekend schedule of working, blogging, and baking. Although I don’t have too much time off, it’ll be nice to relax a little bit. I am hoping to get very organized this weekend as it’s the start of a new month!
On to my outfit…I think we can all agree that I normally lean towards the more conservative side. The last time I was in Anthroplogie, my friend Laura, who is the stylist there, told me I had to try on this dress. I’m not going to lie, I didn’t even notice the cut-out until I already had the dress on. It was one of those days where I was trying on quite a few things and I was in a hurry so I just threw it on and went out to the mirror without paying attention. Sometimes, your mind and insecurities can get in the way of your style and what you are willing to try. Because I didn’t think about this dress before hand, all I had to judge it on was how it looked, not my preconceived notions. So, I loved the dress and bought it.
I was a little concerned at first how I was going to make this work in my wardrobe, but it looks just as cute with a black tank top under it and it was perfect for work. Happy Labor Day Weekend! Until next time, XO
Hello all! I must say, one of my favorite things about living downtown is that I am within walking distance of a fabulous bakery. If you have been following my instagram (@leftylivinglife) you will have seen some of the fabulous pastries I’ve gotten so far! My favorite has been the seasonal danish which had fig and goat cheese in it. Sadly the seasons are changing and they don’t have figs anymore, but they do have a blueberry, cardamon, and goat cheese danish. I just tried it yesterday and it was fabulous!
When I decided to live alone, I promised myself that I would try and go out and explore and interact with other people downtown as often as possible. This bakery, called The Table, was the perfect start for me. First of all, I love baked goods and pastries, so having access to that has been wonderful. Second of all, I can walk over and eat breakfast while blogging! It is just the perfect way for me to spend my mornings.
Sadly, they are closed on my only day off so I can’t spend the entire day there. But I sure am enjoying it as a morning treat so far! Do y’all have any tricks for discovering a new city? Do you have a favorite bakery or coffee shop that you always frequent? Until next time, XO
Hello all! Happy Hump Day! The best part of my new job other than the job itself and the fact that I can walk to work is the fact that I have Monday off. I’ve been trying to utilize all of my Monday free time, but this week, I took off and had a fun social Monday!
I drove over to Winston-Salem to see one of my best friends, have brunch, and she was nice enough to take these fabulous pictures for me. One of my favorite things is being able to sit down with friends over some good food and catch up and discuss life.
This week in North Carolina has been my favorite type of weather. It’s been a little cooler, in the high 70s, low 80s, which has been a nice change. I like it because I can layer and do interesting things with my outfit, but it’s still nice enough that you can be outside and be comfortable.
This shirt is great for this kind of weather because it is sleeveless but is also made of a thicker material so it gave me a little warmth. It also looked adorable under my leather jacket when I went out to dinner! The necklace and snarky purse were the perfect final additions to make this outfit. Until next time, XO
Hello all! It’s Monday for me and I am excited about the start of a new week. There is just something about the beginning of the week that gives me such faith. I always seem to have my best ideas at the beginning of the week and so far, I’ve had quite a few about outfit posts, things to bake for Lefty Baking Life, how to decorate my apartment, and other random things. Hopefully, I’ll be able to accomplish some of these ideas this week and they won’t just sit on my to do list.
Quick word about baked goods before we talk about this outfit. If you didn’t see yesterday’s post, it is for a fabulous and classic lemon bar recipe. I love the juxtaposition between a tart lemon curd and a buttery crust! Also, I am excited to announce this week’s goodie for Lefty Baking Life…caramel brownies! These are some of my favorite chocolate desserts and it has been so tempting not to eat all of them! If you want some, comment below, message me, email me or text me and we will work out the details! You also can go directly to our facebook page or the go fund page. Also, if you have any requests for Lefty Baking Life goodies, let me know! I always love trying new things.
I always struggle with what to wear this time of year. My mind is already thinking about fall clothes but when it’s at least 80 degrees, I want as few a layers as possible. So, I’ve been wearing some of my more transitional clothes without the layers and with fun pops of color to keep them summery. Chambray and leather are my two go-tos when it comes to transitional pieces because they are lighter but easy to layer. Without the layers though, they make the perfect fun outfit. A little pale pink and hot pink were the perfect additions to give this outfit that extra summer kick I was looking for. Until next time, XO
