What I’m Up To

Watching: Harry Styles on James Corden- Harry Styles was on James Corden’s The Late Late Show all last week and he was phenomenal! I love James Corden already and loved seeing more of Harry Styles and the two cracked jokes and sang their way through the week. If you only watch one skit, make sure to check out their carpool karaoke. It was one of my favorite carpool karaokes so far!
Listening to: Harry Style’s new album- After watching James Corden and hearing him perform some of the songs, I’ve had this new album on repeat the last couple of days. It is so different and a breath of fresh air.
Reading: Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty– Now that I’ve started the TV show, it seemed only fitting that I should read the book. I’ll let you know how it is!
Until next time, XO

What I’m Up To

Watching: Arrival– My sister is home for the next week and on Saturday, she wanted to watch this sci-fi movie about an alien landing. Sci-fi and aliens normally aren’t my thing, but I agreed to try it. I surprisingly really enjoyed the movie. It was very well written and I had not idea what was going to happen. Plus, Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner were both great. If you are looking for something different, I would definitely recommend this.
Listening to: There’s Nothing Holding Me Back by Shawn Mendes- I am always looking for peppy, upbeat songs to sing along to on my commute. This song is so catchy and fun and has been perfect to wake me up and keep me focused on my drive.
Reading: Kate and I finally finished Victoria and it was amazing! I loved it. But now that we’ve finished, we just started a new book that Kate picked out called “Behind Her Eyes”. I just started it this morning, but I’ll let you know how it goes.
As always, I would love any and all suggestions! Until next time, XO

What I’m Up To

Watching: The Catch– This is probably the least discussed of Shonda Rhimes’ shows, but it is so well written! It is dramatic and fun, but not quite as emotionally fraught as her other shows. I would definitely recommend it!
Listening to: Green Light by Lorde- Lorde’s new song has been on repeat for me lately! It is perfect whether I am driving, working out, or just hanging around.
Reading: Breakfast at Tiffany’s– Kate and I just finished Victoria and it was fabulous! Now, I’ve decided to reread one of my favorites, Breakfast at Tiffany’s. It is a pretty short read, but I love it!
Until next time, XO

What I’m Up To

Watching…Big Little Lies– As usual, I am a little behind, but I just watched the first episode of Big Little Lies and I am already obsessed! No spoilers please as it will probably be a while before I finish it all!
Listening to…Stay by Zedd/ Alessia Cara- This song has been on repeat for the past couple of weeks during my commute. It is the perfect singing/ dancing in the car song and has also made a great addition to my running playlist.
Reading…I’ll Drink to That by Betty Halbreich– I just started this book and already adore Betty. She is a personal shopper at Bergdorf’s and I can’t wait to read all about her life. I’ll keep you updated on how it is! Until next time, XO

What I’m Up To

Watching…Spotlight– I know I’m a little behind, but I haven’t had the chance to sit down and really devote my energy to a movie in so long! Well, I finally found the time and I watched Spotlight. Before you ask, yes, of course it’s on Netflix and you should go watch it immediately. It was absolutely incredible and I didn’t reach for the distraction of my phone the entire. Quite a feat I must say!
Listening to…new Harry Styles- His first solo single since One Direction, Sign of the Times is now available and trust me, it is different from everything else playing on the radio right now. He also premiered a new song on Saturday Night Live. What do y’all think about his new sound?
Reading…Wait for Me! by Deborah Mitford– I just recently got on this Mitford sisters kick and bought a bunch of books about them. This is the first one I’ve had time to pick-up and it is so interesting! Part auto-biography and part biography of the rest of the sisters, hearing about the family and their lives from the youngest sister’s perspective is fascinating.
Until next time and don’t forget to leave recommendations in the comments below! XO

What I’m Up To

Hello all and happy Monday! As promised, I have some big things coming up on the blog this week so make sure to stay tuned all week! Today, we are starting a new series that I will be posting on Mondays about what I am up to entertainment wise. I will be covering what movies/ TV shows, books, and music I have been keeping up with lately.

So, let’s jump right in! While in Rome, I had access to some different movies through Italian Netflix and I was finally able to watch The Great Gatsby with Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan. I know, I’m only four years behind, but it was awesome! I loved what they did with it and the costumes were absolutely incredible. It has had me dreaming of the 1920s ever since. I want to reread the book now too! What did y’all think of the movie?
Book-wise, as you know, my best friend Kate and I have a bookclub and we just started a new book! We both were excited about starting this book and neither of us have been able to put it down. The book is called Victoria and there is a new show on PBS based on this specific book. It starts right when Victoria is becoming queen and the author has done a great job so far of being engaging and also including a lot of historical information.
If you’ve seen any of our top tens here on Lefty Living Life, you will know that I love music and recently have been very excited about The Chainsmokers. Closer and Paris have been on repeat on my Spotify for a while. Last week, The Chainsmokers came out with their first album and I love it. I have been listening to it non-stop and would definitely recommend it. It is different from a lot of their previous collaborations, but still new and fun.
I would love suggestions for books, movies, music, and tv shows. So, if you have any ideas, make sure to comment or email me directly! Until next time, XO

Top 10: Music Edition

Hello all! I hope you are all having a good week so far! This week’s top ten is all about the music I’ve been listening to lately. If you have any suggestions for things I should be listening to,  I’d love to hear it!

1. It is that time of year again, and Michael Bublé’s Christmas CD has been at the top of my spotify playlist for a while!

2. Of course my most played Christmas song is always Mariah Carey. A classic that always puts me in the mood for wrapping presents!

3. If you like Mariah Carey, this version from Carpool Karaoke is a must! I couldn’t stop smiling when I was watching it.

4. Moving away from Christmas music, this new song by Lindsey Stirling has been stuck in my head all week. Different from your typical top hits song, but definitely worth a listen.

5. I love Ingrid Michaelson, and her new song, Hell No, gets me singing along every time it starts playing.

6. If you haven’t already heard this song by Lady Gaga, go listen to it now! I’ve had it on repeat for the last couple of weeks and absolutely love it.

7. If you don’t like country, you probably won’t like this tune sung by Little Big Town and written by Taylor Swift. But for all my country fans out there, this is a must listen.

8. This next one is not something I would normally listen to, but it has been my new song obsession lately!

9. I love the Lumineers and I was really excited when their new album came out. With the help of my boyfriend, I started listening to Ophelia, and it has become one of my favorite songs of late.

10. The last song on here, The Sound by The 1975, has been a song I’ve been jamming to all summer and fall and I still turn the volume up every time it comes on.

Friday Top 10

Of course, as soon as I decide to post a certain thing every Tuesday I also schedule five hours of classes that day. Moral of the story…my top 10 lists are going to shift around as necessary, so you will just have to keep checking back to see when I post it! So with that, here is this week’s top 10!

1. I love food movies and Chocolat might be my favorite one. First of all Johnny Depp…need I say more? Plus they are in France and the main food is chocolate. Basically three of my favorite things!

2. As you know, I am an art history major and I love art. Currently, I am taking a modern art class and we just started talking about Matisse who is one of my favorite artists of all time! Here are some of my favorite works by him…

3. My favorite type of candy other than chocolate are gummies and I recently discovered a candy website that has the most adorable looking candies I have ever seen! I haven’t had a chance to try them yet, but I can’t wait to try the champagne bears for my birthday!
4. My new music obsession, Andra Day and her song Rise Up
5. If you don’t already read Lena Dunham’s biweekly newsletter, Lenny, you should. The writing is incredible and they cover some very interesting issues.
6. For Christmas, Natalie signed up for this service called Olive Box. Every month they send you different and unique stationary. I have only received a month so far, but already I am excited! My two cards from January were so cute (I already used both of them) and I can’t wait to continue to nurture my snail mail addiction!
7. I have always loved the Fitzgerald’s, but really knew nothing about them. I just finished this incredible book though called Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald. After reading it, I kind of hate F. Scott, but it was so interesting a different from the usual point of view.
8. One Direction released their newest video this week and not only do I love them, but it is also one of my favorite songs on the album!
9. My most recent binge watch on Netflix? Death in Paradise. A British, fun, cop show…my favorite thing and totally worth it!
10. J.Crew just launched its first sunglasses collection and  I can barely contain my excitement!!! I will definitely be looking into these this weekend 🙂

Tuesday Top 10

So this week’s top 10 is very music focused as lots of exciting things have happened involving music and artists that I love this week. XO

1. Y’all know my two best friends, Kate and McKenzie. They frequently make appearances on here and McKenzie has her incredible blog, The Z List. Well, McKenzie and I finally convinced Kate to start her own blog, Gambling on the Stars! I am very excited to now live in a house full of bloggers and y’all should make sure to check out both of their blogs 🙂

2. One Direction just released their newest album and it’s pretty awesome! My favorite song so far is Infinity 🙂

3. I am a huge James Bond and the newest film, Spectre is incredible. Sam Smith sings the title song (so how could it be bad) and it was so well made. A must see if you are looking for something to do!

4. I have not been the biggest Justin Bieber song in the past, but I really love his new album, Purpose. It is definitely worth a listen.

5. J.Crew is having an incredible sale right now and y’all know how much I love “The Crew.” I know where I’ll be this weekend!

6. Adele released her second single today and it is just as show-stopping as Hello. I’ve been listening to it on repeat all day!

7. I’m sure you have been hearing about Paris and all of the other attacks all weekend, but I think it’s important that we all just take a second to be thankful for our own safety and pray for those who aren’t as lucky.

8. Thank goodness fall is here because I have been dying to wear my faux fur! Here are the pieces I’m most exciting about wearing this fall/winter.

9. Other than fur, I have also been obsessing over vintage clip-on earrings. They take a little while to get used to, but there are some incredible styles available. I shop at my local antique store, but Etsy is also a great resource for all things vintage.

10. This week marks the beginning of the Lefty Living Life newsletter. Every Monday, I will be sending out an email with an update on all of the posts from the last week. Sign up in the pop up you probably just x-ed out of or in the let’s keep in touch box on the right! Can’t wait to hear from you! XO

Tuesday Top 10

Typical college student life- I had a huge test this morning, so Monday Top 10 obviously didn’t happen yesterday. But better late than never right?! Plus Tuesday Top 10 is more fun to say than Monday so I might permanently switch to Tuesdays. I hope y’all had a great weekend, I certainly did and some of the highlights on this list! XO

1. I am a huge Kate Spade fan. Their stuff is always adorable and is great quality. Recently they released their newest collection- Kate Spade Home. It is incredible to say the least and the promotional photos are beautiful. Here are some of the highlights!

Kate Spade, home decor

2. My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving, which is normally looked over in favor of Christmas. To remedy this, I am not going to decorate for Christmas until after Thanksgiving and I am also sending out Thanksgiving cards instead of Christmas cards! I will post pictures of the final product once I decide on the design, but Paperless Post has some great physical as well as virtual cards for Thanksgiving, if you are interested.
3. Chocolate and peanut butter is by far my favorite flavor combination and I am obsessed with Trader Joe’s dark chocolate peanut butter cups. I am just warning you now, they are addictive so prepare yourself 🙂
4. This weekend, I was in Chicago for the first time for the BlogHer 2015 Food Conference. First of all, it was an incredible conference and I learned so much about blogging in general, not just food. But, Chicago might be my new favorite city. It was beautiful and so interesting! I can’t wait to go back.
5. While in Chicago, I tried deep-dish pizza for the first time. I don’t understand while all pizza isn’t like Chicago pizza. It was so good! Check out my Instagram for pictures!
6. In Chicago, I met so many bloggers with incredible blogs, however, the most exciting part might have been the final keynote speaker, Sarah Michelle Gellar. I wasn’t expecting very much because I knew absolutely nothing about her other than the fact that she was Buffy. However, she was inspiration and her new food venture is very cool. Check it out here.
7. This past week was the CMAs and surprisingly, my favorite part was Justin Timberlake, not the country music. It is definitely worth it to watch his whole performance.
8. If you are in the mood for videos, you should also watch the new Kate Spade Miss Adventure video. I love their videos almost as much as their purses and this one is no exception!
9. Lately, I’ve been trying to expand my beauty routine by incorporating new lip colors. I just recently discovered Nars Lip Crayons and they are my absolute favorite lipsticks! They are easy to apply and come in a bunch of colors. Best part about them- the color stays on forever.

10. Final Kate Spade thing I promise. These sparkly shoes are my new addiction. They are comfy, sparkly, and bonus, water proof. Basically the perfect shoes. Did I mention they are on sale?
