Hello all! Happy Easter! As y’all know, I love dresses and anything sparkly so cocktail dress are one of my favorite things. Sadly, I don’t have very many occasions to wear such attire to, but I still love to buy it. So, the key for me is finding a way to wear it that works within my everyday life.

Typically, that means dressing down a look until it is more everyday appropriate. With a dress like this, the real “fancy” aspect of it is the fact that it is a one-shouldered dress. So I knew I immediately wanted to cover that up. I went for my casual sweater blazer to help tone it down even more and to add a little color in.

Another easy way to keep a look from getting too fancy, especially when it is a short cocktail dress like this is either wearing flats or tights and boots. Both options will help tone down the dress and make it feel more work appropriate. Seeing as it was 70 degrees today, I went with some of my favorite grey cut-out oxfords. Perfect because they were simple and cute.

Once I had the shoes and the sweater figured out, I knew I was all set o do what I wanted with my accessories. A necklace was unnecessary with the one-shouldered cut of the dress but big tassel earrings were the perfect finishing touch along with a new pink bag!

My last word of advise when trying to tone down a piece, no matter what it is, is try and keep your color pallet pretty muted. You will notice with this that other than my burgundy and pink, every is grey and silver. That way, there isn’t too much going on! Until next time…
