20 Hours in Greenville, SC

For the past four years, my sister has lived in Greenville, South Carolina for school and I have gotten to visit a fair amount and get to know Greenville a little bit. Greenville is a decent sized city, not too big, not too small. In the past 10-15 years, they have revitalized their downtown area so it is food friendly, encourages interactions with the local business, and is centered around a beautiful river.

Of course, there is lots to do in Greenville. They have a lovely performing arts center and they were having a rubber duck derby in the river for local families when I was there. However, my favorite thing to do in Greenville is eat. There are A TON of fabulous restaurants, but the last time I was there, these were the places I went.

One of my favorite places in Greenville is Spill the Beans. It is an awesome coffee shop/ ice cream place. Their hot chocolate is to die for and they have more add-ins for the ice cream then you can imagine. This time, I tried something different with vanilla custard, peaches, and mint. It was surprisingly yummy and very refreshing.

For dinner, we went to a place called Up on the Roof. This is a gorgeous roof-top restaurant and bar. If it hadn’t been raining, I would have loved to have a cocktail outside over looking the town. The menu is pretty extensive and has a strong asian influence. I ordered the roasted duck quesadilla, which was so scrumptious and had a nice bite to it. Natalie had fried chicken lettuce wraps, which as you can see look absolutely fabulous!

The one place that I always go to, no matter what, is Tupelo Honey Cafe. It is mainly breakfast food, but you can go for any meal. They have these fabulous biscuits that they bring to the table when you sit down with tupelo honey and homemade blueberry jam. After the biscuit, I almost don’t even need to order anything. It is classic southern breakfast at it’s best, which is one of my favorite things.

Moral of the story, other than the fact that I only eat on vacation, is that Greenville is a fabulous little city. It is a great place to spend a weekend, especially when the weather is nice because you can walk almost anywhere. Now I’m just going to have to find a new excuse to visit! Until next time…
