I feel like this look is about as classic to my typical style as you can get. Top knot, lipstick, pink, lots of jewelry, overall super girly and preppy. As much as I like to experiment and try new things, sometimes it is nice to stick with what you know too. And a button-down under a sweater with a skirt and a big necklace is second nature for me.
While I love that we have all of the season here in North Carolina, I have a love/hate relationship with our weather. The past few days it has been absolutely beautiful here. I mean 70 degrees, warm wind, and sunny. While I have loved the warmth, it is just going to be that much harder when it inevitably gets cold again. However, I am trying to enjoy this glimpse of spring while I can!
Hello all! You might have noticed that I’ve been wearing a lot of white lately and I have definitely been wearing it more lately, but that is because it is so easy to wear with winter colors! The white, I think, really brightens up those jewel tones, which is always nice when it is dark outside.
As you have probably been doing as well, all I have been wearing lately is layers and layers as I try to keep warm. I always get questions about layering and I think the key is having a couple basic pieces or styles that you can always turn to so you start your outfit off right. So here are my 4 keys that help me layer with every outfit
Hello all! Happy Saturday! I hope you are having a wonderful February so far. Today, I want to talk about one of my favorite subjects, transitioning pieces from season to season.
Especially after dealing with tiny closets in college, I had to become really deliberate about my wardrobe. I didn’t have the space or money to have a completely separate wardrobe for each season so I needed pieces to work easily no matter what season.
The key for is always making colors and patterns that are typically summery and toning them down for winter. For example, gingham is definitely a summer pattern especially when it is pink and white. But with dark jewel tones on top and dark tights and shoes, this skirt works well for winter.
Whenever you have a summer piece, adding dark colors, especially jewel tones can really help to make it more fall/ wintery. Obviously my favorite options are black, navy, and burgundy but you could do the same thing with dark browns, grays, or greens. Really anything to tone down the pastel. But at the same time, don’t let the fact that it is a “summer piece” limit you. It is almost always possible to wear something multiple ways. Until next time…
Ok, so we all know that I love to make a statement, but I acknowledge that I am a lot more adventurous than most. But I think we should all try and be adventurous and I think we so easily get pigeon-holed with these fashion rules and I just think that is silly.
Hello all! So my biggest struggle in the winter is staying warm while also staying cute. My immediate reaction is to throw on the biggest sweater in my closet, some boots, and be done. But that gets boring really quickly and is definitely not work appropriate.
As much as I love layering, there are some pitfalls that I like to avoid. The first one is that I don’t want to look like the Michelin man and not be able to move my arms. The other one is that I still want to feel cute and feminine, while also staying warm. With a wool mini-skirt and a thick but girly sweater are the perfect way to avoid these issues.
Hello all! Somehow time is already getting away from me even though the New Year just started! Things have already been crazy busy as I finally submitted all of my grad school applications (!!!), made lots of new resolutions and goals for 2018, and have started to get my life organized. A lot of that has been new ideas and plans for Lefty Living Life, so definitely stay tuned and if there is anything you would like to see, please message me or comment!
A new year is basically a clean slate. You can start over on a project, try and pick up a habit, change something in your life, really anything you want and it is an easier marker to use. I try and be one of those people where it doesn’t matter what day you start something new, as long as you start it. But today, everything seemed to fall into place and it was the perfect time to launch the new and improved Lefty Living Life.
