Hello all! Somehow time is already getting away from me even though the New Year just started! Things have already been crazy busy as I finally submitted all of my grad school applications (!!!), made lots of new resolutions and goals for 2018, and have started to get my life organized. A lot of that has been new ideas and plans for Lefty Living Life, so definitely stay tuned and if there is anything you would like to see, please message me or comment!
Hello all! Happy Hump Day! The best part of my new job other than the job itself and the fact that I can walk to work is the fact that I have Monday off. I’ve been trying to utilize all of my Monday free time, but this week, I took off and had a fun social Monday!
I drove over to Winston-Salem to see one of my best friends, have brunch, and she was nice enough to take these fabulous pictures for me. One of my favorite things is being able to sit down with friends over some good food and catch up and discuss life.
This week in North Carolina has been my favorite type of weather. It’s been a little cooler, in the high 70s, low 80s, which has been a nice change. I like it because I can layer and do interesting things with my outfit, but it’s still nice enough that you can be outside and be comfortable.
This shirt is great for this kind of weather because it is sleeveless but is also made of a thicker material so it gave me a little warmth. It also looked adorable under my leather jacket when I went out to dinner! The necklace
and snarky purse were the perfect final additions to make this outfit. Until next time, XO
So remember yesterday when I mentioned that I’ve been wearing a lot of stripes yesterday? Surprisingly I wasn’t kidding and I didn’t even plan to have two back to back striped posts! That is just how much I love stripes right now.
This shirt was also kind of like the dress from yesterday in that I initially tried it on because I thought it looked weird and boxy. Exciting news, it is neither weird or boxy! I’ve already worn it once without tucking it in and I liked it just as much as when I tucked it in.
These days, I am always looking for versatile pieces that I can wear casually when I have a day off, but that I can also dress up for work. This shirt is perfect for that. I love the men’s wear inspired stripes and then the girly ruffles…perfect for my ultra-feminine wardrobe!
The ruffles are also a nice touch for those of you who don’t like big jewelry. You can basically avoid jewelry all together because of where the ruffles fall. If you want, you can just throw on some cute earrings and then you are all set! Have a fabulous Friday and thanks for stopping by! Until next time, XO
Hello all! I hope your week is going well so far! Before recently, I would have said that my go-to pattern is plaid of florals. I’ve never been a big stripes or polka dots girl although they occasionally popped up in my wardrobe. Lately though, it seems like all I wear is stripes…I’ve already worn them for three other blog posts just this month (here
, and here
) and I’m even wearing stripes right now as I write this!
So let’s talk about this dress…it is not my typical style because I normally stay away from shift dresses. Sometimes they work for me, but a lot of times they make me feel self-conscious. Anyways, whenever I go shopping, if I don’t understand how something will fit or am just confused by a piece, I always try it on, just to see how it will look.
This dress was one of those pieces. I picked it up completely confused how a shift dress with no slit that hit below your knees was supposed to work. Of course, I spoke way too soon about this dress and ended up buying it that day. Let me explain, the dress has some stitching in the torso that is almost like a fit and flare without the flare. So the dress is extremely comfortable and also very flattering.
While I’ve definitely been having some body-image issues as of late, this dress was a great cure to my issues and looked perfect with my new favorite neon necklace! Until next time, XO
Hello all! My new schedule has been so weird and is completely throwing me off. Before, I worked full-time Monday through Friday and then part time Saturday and Sunday. Now, I work full-time Tuesday through Saturday, with a little extra Saturday night and then part time Sunday with Monday completely off. Monday felt like Saturday all day and yesterday felt like Monday. Today, I have no idea what day it is ha!
It is so weird to think that a few years ago, I was barely wearing any color at all. I never would have dared to wear an all neon outfit especially with an off-the-shoulder bodysuit! But, like with everything, your style changes and evolves. Now, it is so easy for me to wear color. Whether it is just a pop of color in an otherwise neutral outfit or lots of neon pink. It is almost second nature to add color to an outfit.
When it comes to neon, don’t let it intimidate you. Like anything else, start with a simpler base…for this outfit that was the bodysuit, jeans, and sandals. Then, I added a bright necklace. When choosing a necklace, I wanted one that would fall above my top because of the ruffle. That narrowed down my selection a little. Then I wanted one with a little color because my base was rather boring and very blue. This necklace has some blue to tie it in with the outfit but then the bright pink so it was perfect.
The final piece to this outfit was the belt. I was happy with the necklace, but needed something to break-up all of the blue in the rest of the outfit. This belt was the perfect addition to tie-in to the necklace and add that final pop. Keep an eye out tonight for my review of Reynolda House’s newest art exhibition on Georgia O’Keeffe! Until then, XO
Hello all! Happy weekend! It is still early here because I’m writing this in advance to publish later, but I have lots going on today! I’m starting off this morning with one of my new favorite activities, the Farmer’s Market! I love being able to support local farmers, plus I love the food. I’ve been a couple of weeks in a row and the hand pie lady (no surprise there since I get one every time) and the tomato people now recognize me! It feels like I am finally a regular in a town I’ve lived in my whole life!
After the Farmer’s Market, I am off to work at the Gallery. I am so excited about the show because it is finally all hung and it looks amazing! I want to buy it all for myself! But it is so exciting to be able to walk in every morning and say I did this. I could not be more excited about this job and this opportunity!
Finally, my parents are fabulous and are delivering the last bit of my furniture to my apartment! Now all I have to do is finish getting everything set up and decorate! I am loving the apartment so far and I will definitely be posting more about it once it is all set up.
Well, enough about that for now, let’s talk about clothes for a minute, this is a fashion blog after all! It has been pleasantly cool the past couple of days, which has been the perfect chance for me to start experimenting with layering and transitional pieces. I love wearing a chambray or a jean jacket as an outer layer with fun patterns underneath it. It just adds an extra dimension and the sparkly shoes were the perfect finishing touch. Until next time, XO
Hello again! I hope your Friday was fabulous and you have some fun plans this weekend. As usual, I will be working this weekend, but I am very excited about my work! So far the gallery has been very new and exciting. It is very different from my previous work and I am definitely learning on the fly, but I am enjoying it at the same time.
I am really enjoying the work so far for two main reasons. First of all, every day is different. I don’t have a set list of things that I do every day and I get to set my own to-do list. This is nice because it forces me to take action and think ahead and really think on my feet, which is fun. I also feel like I am learning so much in terms of experience but also in terms of dealing with artists and selling art.
The other thing that I love is that I get to deal with art every day. Whether it is bringing in art, taking inventory, hanging the art, and promoting the art or talking with clients and prospective buyers about the art. I am able to talk and interact with art all day, which is exactly what I want to be doing in my career.
All in all, the new job is going swimmingly and I can’t wait to see what the next year has in store! Check out the Gallery’s facebook
and blog pages
to see exactly what I am up to and learn more about the art that I am bringing in! Until next time, XO
