Hello all! I cannot believe that it is already May 2017. It seems like just yesterday I was putting on this dress and going to my graduation party! So much has changed this year and I am so excited to see what the next year has in store for me.
Last year, I chose this dress for my graduation party because it is so cute and it just made me happy. Whenever I am dressing for an important occasion, I try to choose things that make me feel good about how I look and make me happy. Then, I don’t worry about any of that during the event itself.
I love this dress because it is striped with divers which is perfect of a summer party. I also love the cut which is unique, but still flattering. Finally, I love how there is room to add a little bling with your jewelry. How do y’all pick out an outfit for an important event? Until next time, XO
Hello all! As you have probably been able to tell by now, I love to bake and I especially love themed desserts. This is a fairly new discovery but I have loved making special holiday treats for everyone at work with fun decorations. Decorating something just gives it that extra oomph that I also look for in my outfits!
So, in honor of spring, I decided to try something new. My co-worker Jessica and I were brainstorming one day for desserts she could make for her family for Easter. By far the cutest thing we saw on Pinterest were bunny butt cakes. Yes, cakes that look like a bunny butt. They were adorable and absolutely hilarious.
Now, while I loved the idea, I am not a huge cake fan. So I decided to adapt the idea to my favorite cookie recipe, sprinkle cookies
. These cookies are pretty easy to make and they are delicious. To make them into bunny butts, I split the dough into half and used half to make regular size cookies (which I cooked for 11 minutes) and half to make tiny cookies to use as the feet (I cooked these for 4 minutes).
Then, after they had cooled, I first iced all of the regular cookies with plain icing. Then I put a little bit of icing on the bottom of the tiny cookies as glue to attach them to the regular cookies. Finally, I dyed the rest of my icing pink to make the tails and the feet.
Let me tell you, these were a huge hit at work and are by far the cutest thing I’ve ever made. If you try them out, I’d love to hear how it goes or get any suggestions for improving them! Until next time, XO
Hello all! I hope you are having a fabulous week so far. Spring is one of my favorite seasons because it feels so hopeful. It is finally warm enough to spend time outside, but also cool enough that you can still have fun with your layers. For me, this means getting to wear one of my favorite things, button-downs.
There is something so perfect and timeless about a good, crisp button-down. However, even with that said, button-downs can get boring and need a little something extra to complete your outfit. For this, I always look to Jenna Lyons who is the queen of perfectly undone.
First, I started with a striped button-down that has the extra details of an embroidered collar and cuffs. Then I added fun earrings and shoes. Whenever I wear a button-down or masculine inspired clothing, I always try and add feminine details through my accessories. This keeps the outfit from feeling too boxy or masculine.
The final styling came straight from Jenna Lyons- the half tucked, half un-tucked look. I would recommend high-waisted jeans for this so you have enough shirt-tail to hang out. Then, you want to tuck in the side with the buttons so the buttoned part of the shirt lays flat once you are done.
What do y’all think of this look? Perfectly undone but perfectly stylish? I would love to hear your thoughts! Until next time, XO
Hello all! What a week it has been! I cannot wait for the weekend to start tomorrow. As you can probably tell, my style tends toward the girly/ feminine side, especially when it comes to accessories and details. I love anything sparkly and pink and ruffles are my new favorite detail for summer.
As much as I love these aspects now, girly has not always been my go-to. It is actually a pretty recent style change and one that has been so fun to explore and experiment with.
However, every now and then, I like to toughen up some of my girly details. This burgundy leather skirt is the perfect way to do that. The cut is pretty classic with the little flare and the pleats. But the color is unexpected and makes it feel more modern. Plus, the leather is the perfect combination with the otherwise girly ruffles of this top.
As usual, once I started, I couldn’t stop. So big clip-ons and a sparkly purse were necessary additions. Plus, I’ve been very into experimenting with lipsticks lately and this color matched my skirt so perfectly, I couldn’t resist.
A 100% girly outfit has it’s place and time, but mixing it up is part of the fun of fashion. Don’t be afraid to mix pieces that don’t always go together. That is typically how I find my favorite combinations! Until next time, XO
I don’t know about y’all and your weather, but it seems like it’s been raining here forever! It has also been cooler the last few days, which has been a nice chance to wear the last of my spring clothes before summer hits.
Whenever it is rainy, I try and brighten up my outfit with sparkles or color. That way, even though it is dreary outside, I don’t feel blah or bored with my outfit. This pink lipstick is the perfect way to add a pop to any outfit.
This lipstick is Nars and it is so easy to apply. It comes in about 100 different colors and it stays on all day. I couldn’t gush about it more and would highly recommend it.
It seemed fitting with this outfit to not only add color, but also some sparkles. I am so glad that brooches are finally coming back in. I have loved them for years, but they are very difficult to shop for when they aren’t trendy!
I like wearing multiple brooches at the same time or mixing them with necklaces. This gives them a more modern feel and they are always a fun statement piece. Here’s to hoping it’s sunny tomorrow! Until next time, XO
Hello all! I think by now we can all admit that I have an obsession with everything pink. However, it hasn’t always been like that. In fact, I refused to even wear pink until I got to college! I guess now, I’m making up for lost time! HA!
But, in all seriousness, pink and really colors in general are a newer addition to my wardrobe. My first inclination, especially if I’m not paying addition is to wear all neutrals. For me, that doesn’t necessarily mean all black, but more that there is not a statement pop of color.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I love that pink and other colors are now a part of my wardrobe. But, at the same time, there is something to be said about an all neutral outfit. The lack of color always makes me feel a little classier in any outfit.
Wearing all neutrals is also an excellent opportunity to break some of those tried and true fashion rules that I don’t believe in like not mixing metals, not wearing black and navy together, or not mixing black and brown. When you have an all neutral outfit, these combinations normally pop and look amazing together.
So give the color a break every once in a while and give neutral a try! Until next time, XO
Happy Friday! I am so excited that it’s Friday and even more excited about this blog post because I have some very big news to share with you. As I have been alluding to for the past couple of weeks, I have something I want to tell y’all and I’ve been waiting for the perfect time.
Happily, that time is now, so I’m just going to dive right in! As you know, I graduated from college with a degree in art history in May of 2016. Since then, I’ve worked with an art gallery, a non-profit, and an auction house, where I currently work full time.
However, starting in September, I will be moving to London for a year to get my masters in art history from Christie’s Education. I am so excited about this next chapter of my life and even more excited about living in London again!
If you have any suggestions for things to do in London or know any one I can get coffee with, I’d love to hear about it. There will also be way more posts leading up to my move with lots of details so not to worry! I am so excited and so glad to share this with y’all! Until next time, XO
Hello all! It is finally starting to feel like spring here and I couldn’t be more excited. As much as I love winter and my winter wardrobe, I am definitely ready for a change and I have been getting very excited about my summer wardrobe as I’ve been unpacking it.
Last summer, a big trend for me was ruffles. By the end of the summer though, I was sick of all things ruffly and thought I had put that fashion trend to bed. However, after going through my summer clothes, I am all excited about ruffles again. They are such a fun and girly detail, which I absolutely love, especially for summer.
The other thing I am excited about for summer is patterns. I don’t avoid patterns in the winter obviously, but my focus is generally mixing textures. In the summer, it is hard to mix textures without layering and completely overheating. So, patterns it is!
One of my favorite patterns is cheetah print. Whether it is with a plain black dress or florals (I know, totally ground breaking for spring, but they do look great with cheetah print), the cheetah print always takes the outfit to the next level. I especially love it with these stripes because each pattern seems to accentuate the other. Totally counter-intuitive, but I’m rolling with it. Big news tomorrow so make sure to check back! Until then, XO
With winter finishing up and spring very much upon us, this will probably be my last opportunity to wear any winter clothes. So, it seemed only fitting to wear two of my favorite pieces from this winter.
First of all, turtlenecks, If I could pick one word to describe my winter wardrobe it would be turtlenecks. This burgundy with navy stripes one was perfect for me whether I was layering it under sweaters or just wearing wearing it by itself with a statement necklace. You can’t go wrong with a turtleneck!
This sweater is also one of my favorites. I love the stripes of different colors and patterns. Then, the sparkles on top add just the right amount of pop. People always comment that the sparkles look like snowflakes and I absolutely love that idea.
Lots of new things coming up this week so stay tuned! Until then, XO
Hello all! It has been a tough and emotional past couple of weeks, hence the sporadic posting. But I am hoping to get back into my grove as of tonight and I have some big plans for posts next week. So, make sure to stay tuned and subscribe to the email list so you don’t miss any updates!
One of my favorite materials to wear during transitional months is chambray. It gives you that extra warmth you want and is great for layering, but the material itself isn’t so thick. There is just something so classic about a chambray button-down.
For me, the perfect chambray color is a little lighter so it creates a nice contrast with my darker jeans. I love denim in all forms, but I don’t like when all of denim shades match. A little too “Texas tuxedo” for me!
The great thing about chambray is that it is so easy to accessories. If you wear it with jeans, you basically have a blank slate that is just begging for some statement jewelry. I just picked up these earrings at J.Crew and I am in love.
The color is the perfect pop for summer or with a black dress. They are made of a papery material so they are incredibly light and easy to wear all day, no matter what you are doing. Statement earrings are definitely my go-to accessory right now! Until next time, XO
