Hello all! What a week it has been! I cannot wait for the weekend to start tomorrow. As you can probably tell, my style tends toward the girly/ feminine side, especially when it comes to accessories and details. I love anything sparkly and pink and ruffles are my new favorite detail for summer.
As much as I love these aspects now, girly has not always been my go-to. It is actually a pretty recent style change and one that has been so fun to explore and experiment with.
However, every now and then, I like to toughen up some of my girly details. This burgundy leather skirt is the perfect way to do that. The cut is pretty classic with the little flare and the pleats. But the color is unexpected and makes it feel more modern. Plus, the leather is the perfect combination with the otherwise girly ruffles of this top.
As usual, once I started, I couldn’t stop. So big clip-ons and a sparkly purse were necessary additions. Plus, I’ve been very into experimenting with lipsticks lately and this color matched my skirt so perfectly, I couldn’t resist.
A 100% girly outfit has it’s place and time, but mixing it up is part of the fun of fashion. Don’t be afraid to mix pieces that don’t always go together. That is typically how I find my favorite combinations! Until next time, XO
Hello all! I think by now we can all admit that I have an obsession with everything pink. However, it hasn’t always been like that. In fact, I refused to even wear pink until I got to college! I guess now, I’m making up for lost time! HA!
But, in all seriousness, pink and really colors in general are a newer addition to my wardrobe. My first inclination, especially if I’m not paying addition is to wear all neutrals. For me, that doesn’t necessarily mean all black, but more that there is not a statement pop of color.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I love that pink and other colors are now a part of my wardrobe. But, at the same time, there is something to be said about an all neutral outfit. The lack of color always makes me feel a little classier in any outfit.
Wearing all neutrals is also an excellent opportunity to break some of those tried and true fashion rules that I don’t believe in like not mixing metals, not wearing black and navy together, or not mixing black and brown. When you have an all neutral outfit, these combinations normally pop and look amazing together.
So give the color a break every once in a while and give neutral a try! Until next time, XO
With winter finishing up and spring very much upon us, this will probably be my last opportunity to wear any winter clothes. So, it seemed only fitting to wear two of my favorite pieces from this winter.
First of all, turtlenecks, If I could pick one word to describe my winter wardrobe it would be turtlenecks. This burgundy with navy stripes one was perfect for me whether I was layering it under sweaters or just wearing wearing it by itself with a statement necklace. You can’t go wrong with a turtleneck!
This sweater is also one of my favorites. I love the stripes of different colors and patterns. Then, the sparkles on top add just the right amount of pop. People always comment that the sparkles look like snowflakes and I absolutely love that idea.
Lots of new things coming up this week so stay tuned! Until then, XO
For me, spring and summer clothes are all about neons and sparkles. An outfit just doesn’t seem complete without one or the other, or in this case, both!
My general rule for both of these is to keep it under control. I love using neon as a statement pop of color against an otherwise neutral outfit. This bag and belt are perfect to throw on and give an otherwise cute, but boring outfit that extra oomph. I also try and keep my neon to one color. Two hot pink accent items are ok, but you don’t want to add neon yellow in the mix too. It’s too much and you’ll end up looking like an 80s highlighter.
As difficult as it is, moderation is also key for sparkles. I like to keep it to one section. If my necklace or jewelry in general is sparkly, no need to have a sparkly bag too. Same goes for if my shirt is sparkly. I will still wear jewelry, but it might be more subdued.
Well, now that we’ve talked about fashion a little, let’s talk more about Rome. Our second day, Sunday, might have been our busiest day of the whole trip. We walked so much and saw so many amazing sites. We started at the Colosseum and did all of that, the Forum (which is right beside the Colosseum and there is only one ticket for both), and the Palatine Hill (you have to walk through the Forum to get to the top of the Hill). A definite must see if you’ve never been to Rome.
After lunch, we went to an art exhibition. This might sound crazy for the non-art obsessed readers out there, but the main reason I wanted to go to Rome last week was to see this particular art exhibition. It featured an artist named Artemisia Gentileschi, who happens to be one of the artists I wrote my thesis on! I had only seen one of her works previously and all of her works I discussed in my thesis were in this show! To say it was incredible would be an understatement and I ended up going to see it twice! It was one of those moments where life seems to align for just a second and everything all seemed to work out perfectly. It made me want to write another thesis too!
We finished up the day visiting the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain. The Trevi Fountain is awesome during the day, but I would recommend you visit at least once after dark because it is lit up and looks magical at night. We didn’t stop moving all day it seemed, but it was a fabulous day. Until next time, XO
Hello all! I can’t believe spring is already here, 2017 is already flying by. It is even more unbelievable since two weeks ago, it was barely getting about freezing! So this is probably going to be my last winter outfit post until fall, which is perfect because this look includes so many things that were staples for me this winter.
Between the over-the-knee boots, pink skirt, and sequined details, this outfit is everything I love about my winter clothes. Plus, I love these furry ear muffs, they are just too cute. They aren’t very practical or necessary here in North Carolina, but I love them and try to wear them at least once every so often.
The other thing I love about this outfit is the mix of textures. From the fur to the fuzzy scarf to the sequins to the wool skirt, there is such a variety of materials that play off each other so well. That is always the thing I miss most about winter clothes- layering things and creating interesting combinations. It is just so much easier to do when it’s cold outside!
As promised, this week I am going to tell you about Rome in addition to my outfit posts. So, let’s drive right in. We arrived in Rome pretty early Saturday morning and as excited as we were to explore, both Kate and I were in desperate need of a nap after the uncomfortable flight. But after our naps, we were ready to go!
That first day, we didn’t do any set activities, but wandered around and I introduced Kate to the city (she’d never been to Rome before). It seems like we walked every where in Rome that first day! We started at our Air BnB right near the Pantheon. We then walked to Piazza Navona, Castel Sant’Angelo, the Vatican, St. Peter’s Basilica, and ended up across the river in Trastevere (my favorite area of Rome and where I lived a couple of summers ago). Of course, for dinner, we started off our food tour on a high note with pizza and cannoli!
More outfits and adventures stories this week so stay tuned! Until then, XO
For my birthday a couple of weeks ago, my wonderful boyfriend gave me these awesome cocktail-infused gummies from Sugarfina. I have mentioned them a couple of times before (here and here) as I have been admiring them from afar for a few years. Now That I have tried them, I can tell you that they taste even better than they look!
The champagne and rose flavors are distinct in the gummy bears, but delicious. And the peach bellini hearts might be my new favorite candy! To say I am obsessed would be an understatement. Definitely check out their website as they have something for everyone. The ones I really want to try next are these dark chocolate champagne bears!
As with most things in my life, eating these gummies made me feel a certain way and influenced my outfit. In this case, an outfit with girl pinks and burgundies and lots of sparkles. This sweater has become one of my favorite pieces in my wardrobe. Like many pieces I own, I bought it as a statement piece, but it has fit so seamlessly into my closet. It goes with so many other pieces I already owned and it is super easy to layer.
So, moral of today’s post? Go buy Sugarfina candy and statement pieces that are the same color palette as the majority of your wardrobe! Until next time, XO
Hello all! Outfit posts are officially back after a brief hiatus…how exciting! However, I do want to take this opportunity to open up a little bit and be straight with y’all. Sure, last week was super crazy at work so I didn’t really have any time to photograph outfits, write posts, or do bloggy things. Sometimes life just gets in the way of your plans.
But, when I take blogging breaks, it’s not always just because I’m busy. Here on Lefty Living Life, what you see is what you get. None of my photos are edited- that is really what I look like. My outfits are ones I have worn all day through work or hanging out and I only post the ones I love. Everything I write about is something I love and care about.
With that said, sometimes things don’t work out. I don’t get home until after dark or my outfit doesn’t work that day so I don’t have pictures. Or I’m in a bad mood or am not feeling inspired so I don’t want to write a blog post. The moral of the story is I’m not perfect and neither is this blog. But being perfect isn’t the goal. Making mistakes and being a real person to connect with are more important to me than perfection. Thank you to all of you who read, visit, and like the blog. Y’all make this fun and inspiring everyday so thank you for sticking with me!
This outfit is full of my favorite things. This t-shirt and necklace combination is my go-to for any situation because it is comfy and always works well. This purse is the perfect statement piece for any outfit- no ifs, ands or buts. This skirt, I love so much I have it in this color AND black. Finally, these shoes. They are technically rain boots, but they are so perfect that I wear them all the time. When you bring together a bunch of pieces you adore, I call it a power outfit. You stand a little taller and strut your stuff a little more when you wear it. Just what I needed after a rough week. Until next time, XO
Mixing patterns has always been a favorite trend of mine, but it can be very hard to pull off. The one rule that I always follow is to make sure the colors themselves look good together. Then, even if you have lots of conflicting patterns and designs going on, at least they don’t clash. The other good rule to follow, is you have to take the jump. It can be intimidating to wear something busy when general fashion principles tell you to tone it down. But, if you are willing to take the risk, normally it will work out in your favor. How do you mix patterns? Any general principles you always follow? Until next time, XO
Hello all! Happy New Year’s Eve! This year has flown by but has also been so eventful and crazy. I am so thankful for all of my blessings this year and looking forward to what 2017 has in store for me!
This should come as a surprise to no one, but I love New Year’s Eve because it is a great excuse to wear sparkles. Normally, I incorporate sparkles into my outfit with a big necklace or earrings. But this year, I decided to mix it up a little and to have a dress that was, in itself, sparkly. I love the subtle sparkle to this dress and it was the perfect back drop for this feathery bag. I also love the bow detail in the back. You don’t normally see it because I am always wrapped up in a cardigan, but I still love the idea of it!
I hope y’all have a wonderful New Year’s Eve and an exciting 2017. I would love to hear about your New Year’s Eve style so make sure to comment below or email me! XO
Flamingos have never really been on on my radar before and I don’t know how I missed them! I mean, they are pink, what’s not to love?! I fell in love with this shirt when I saw it because of the pink sequins. However, I also love embellished t-shirts that I can dress-up. As y’all know, I don’t really do casual, but that doesn’t mean I don’t love t-shirts and comfy clothes. I love pairing t-shirts with giant necklaces or skirts. It always feels unexpected and adds that little extra pop I’m always looking for to my outfit. XO
