While I love that we have all of the season here in North Carolina, I have a love/hate relationship with our weather. The past few days it has been absolutely beautiful here. I mean 70 degrees, warm wind, and sunny. While I have loved the warmth, it is just going to be that much harder when it inevitably gets cold again. However, I am trying to enjoy this glimpse of spring while I can!
One of the hardest things about having a fashion blog is dealing with winter. First of all your time to take photos is seriously affected by light. During the summer, I normally take pictures after work and it is not a problem at all. In the winter though, I have to set out specific time early in the morning or on the weekend so there is enough light.
As we all know from this post
and others, I love my sequins. Whenever any one asks, I always describe my style as classic with a feminine touch and sequins always add that extra touch that my otherwise classic pieces need. Recently I’ve been loving my sequined skirts and pairing them with big, chunky knits. The juxtaposition in style and texture is so fun and gives my sequined pieces a new, fun twist.
I’ve been obsessed with this sequined pencil skirt since I got it, but I’ve had a little trouble transitioning it into my every day wardrobe. However, now that it is holiday season, this skirt is perfect for all of my holiday parties and other events. Dress is up with a nice top or give it a cozy edge with a big sweater like this. Either way, I’m in love and you don’t have to worry about accessories when you have a fab skirt like this! Even though the sweater tones the look down a little, it is still appropriate for any event you have and the skirt is on mega sale right now, so much so that you will probably only be able to find it in stores at J.Crew! How would you integrate sequins into your wardrobe? I would love to hear your thoughts and maybe I can experiment for both of us! Until next time…
One thing I always struggle with is dressing up for an event. Am I dressed up enough? Am I dressed up too much? Do I even like my outfit? A lot of times when I dress up, I feel like I am losing part of my style and personality in my outfit. But no more. I have finally found the perfect cocktail-level outfit for me! And of course it involves as many sequins as I could find.
I picked up this sequined pencil skirt from J.Crew awhile ago. I know exactly how I’m going to wear it come winter…with a chunky sweater and motorcycle boots. But now, I had no idea what to do with it or where it was appropriate to wear it.
But then, I had an unexpected cocktail-attire party come up last minute. I didn’t have a dress and didn’t have time to find one so I needed to make what I had work. Finally, I thought, the perfect chance to wear my sequins! With so much going on with my skirt, it seemed best to stick with a simple, black, off-the-shoulder top and black heels. I was so excited about this look, but it definitely needed the necklace to fill-up some of the empty space. I think statements earrings would have worked just as well.
I was so pleased with how this outfit came together and I can’t wait for another cocktail party or colder weather so I can wear this skirt again! Do you have a go-to look you always wear for cocktail parties? Until next time, XO.
P.S. My clutch is actually my wallet! You can get it here

Hello all! Happy Friday! It is crazy, but it already feels like fall here. A lot of that is probably because of all of the weather fronts we are getting, but it has been fun to start experimenting with fall clothes. As excited as I am about fall, I am sure there are still going to be quite a few opportunities for me to wear summer clothes and I still have a couple summer outfits to share with you!
This one might be one of my favorite outfits I’ve worn lately. The sassy sequin skirt with the classic white button down is just the perfect representation of my style. One of my friends commented on my instagram that it was half mermaid, half sailor, which I absolutely love. My idea of the perfect outfit is one that is sassy and girly, but also classic and this fits the bill to a tee! Until next time, XO
Hello all! Happy Wednesday! This week has already been crazy busy for me, but I might has some exciting news coming soon, so cross your fingers for me! Hope y’all are having a wonderful week so far.
So I love this skirt. But it was kind of an impulse buy and quite a bit out of my comfort zone. With that said, I still want to wear it all the time in a way that still fits my style as well as my day to day life. The first time I wore it, with my chambray shirt
, was easy. The whole outfit came together so seamlessly and just flowed perfectly.
This second go round was a little harder. A big thing for me is that I wanted to tone down the skirt enough that it wouldn’t be outlandish to wear it out and about during the day. That meant a t-shirt and keeping my jewelry minimal. This t-shirt was the perfect match because it is casual and looked perfect partially tucked in.
Jewelry-wise, I couldn’t quite resist, but I made sure my earrings weren’t sparkly. The thing that really pulled together this outfit for me was the bag. I didn’t want anything to structured or fancy so this big, slouchy tote was perfect. Plus, it was big enough for me to tote my camera around in!
Until next time, XO
Hello all! I hope your week is going well soon. Just a little note before we talk about sequins…there are going to be some changes on the blog coming up. I am very excited about them and I can’t wait to show you. So make sure to stay tuned over the next couple of weeks and as always, feel free to leave feedback in the comments or email them to me!
As you probably know, Jenna Lyons
is one of my main style icons. Obviously she has great style, but I really connected with her when I discovered her in high school. She was wearing sequins and looked perfectly undone, but she was also wearing this giant, bold glasses on the red carpet. I have always loved my glasses, but to see someone wearing dramatic glasses on the red carpet was incredible and encouraging. Since then, Jenna has continued to inspire me and my style.
When I saw this skirt on J.Crew Factory
, I knew I had to have it. I could already envision so many outfits just from seeing it online. So, on a whim I ordered it. As much as I love sequins, a sequined mini skirt is a little out of the box for me. However, I am already in love with this skirt. It was the perfect pairing to a chambray and pink sneakers.
As you know, I love to dress up certain pieces or wear them in interesting ways. These pink sneakers are so adorable and I love wearing them with big jewels or a dress. It makes them so much cooler and way more fun. They were the perfect pairing with the sequined skirt because I was trying to dress down the skirt so it worked for every day life.
I am a huge fan of chambray shirts because they are way more versatile and fun than just a plain old button-down. The chambray worked perfectly with this skirt and was also a great opportunity to channel Jenna with the perfectly undone…half-tucked/ half-untucked top.
The final touch for this look was simple jewelry and accessories. When you have a sequined skirt, knowing the limit is important and I think a big necklace or earrings would have pushed this outfit over the edge. Until next time, XO
Hello all! I cannot believe that it is already May 2017. It seems like just yesterday I was putting on this dress and going to my graduation party! So much has changed this year and I am so excited to see what the next year has in store for me.
Last year, I chose this dress for my graduation party because it is so cute and it just made me happy. Whenever I am dressing for an important occasion, I try to choose things that make me feel good about how I look and make me happy. Then, I don’t worry about any of that during the event itself.
I love this dress because it is striped with divers which is perfect of a summer party. I also love the cut which is unique, but still flattering. Finally, I love how there is room to add a little bling with your jewelry. How do y’all pick out an outfit for an important event? Until next time, XO
