A new year is basically a clean slate. You can start over on a project, try and pick up a habit, change something in your life, really anything you want and it is an easier marker to use. I try and be one of those people where it doesn’t matter what day you start something new, as long as you start it. But today, everything seemed to fall into place and it was the perfect time to launch the new and improved Lefty Living Life.
Hello all! While Halloween is not one of my favorite holidays, I have finally found a costume that I love to wear and is perfect for Halloween…Audrey Hepburn from Breakfast at Tiffany’s. This outfit is so easy to put together with things you already have in your closet and it fits well into my style. I think what I don’t like about wearing a costume is because it makes me feel uncomfortable. This outfit though, is almost something that I would wear on a regular day so I still feel comfortable and fabulous even though I’m wearing a costume. I hope you had a fabulous Halloween and Happy November!
As we all know, I love to mix and match and create outfits with many different pieces. But sometimes, it is nice to have a piece where you don’t have to work hard, it just looks cute all on its own. This dress is one of those pieces. It is fitted in all of the right places so you don’t need a jacket or a belt, it is of a heavier material so you also don’t need another layer for warmth, and finally, it is interesting enough on its own that you could add jewelry, but you don’t have to. Of course, I couldn’t resist so I added some little layered necklaces, but otherwise, I kept it pretty simple.
If you missed it earlier today, these
are some of the new pieces that will be up on my eBay site
this week. I am loving being able to share my clothes with you and I would love to hear your feedback if you have any.
Finally, I have some exciting news coming up over the next couple of weeks that I can’t wait to share with you about my new friendship with Swoozie’s
. In the meantime though, for all of my Greensboro friends, you should come to their anniversary party tomorrow! I will definitely be there and I would love to see some of you there! As always, the links to all of the items in this outfit are below. Just scroll through the pictures to see the complete look! Until next time, XO
Hello all! I must say, one of my favorite things about living downtown is that I am within walking distance of a fabulous bakery. If you have been following my instagram
) you will have seen some of the fabulous pastries I’ve gotten so far! My favorite has been the seasonal danish which had fig and goat cheese in it. Sadly the seasons are changing and they don’t have figs anymore, but they do have a blueberry, cardamon, and goat cheese danish. I just tried it yesterday and it was fabulous!
When I decided to live alone, I promised myself that I would try and go out and explore and interact with other people downtown as often as possible. This bakery, called The Table
, was the perfect start for me. First of all, I love baked goods and pastries, so having access to that has been wonderful. Second of all, I can walk over and eat breakfast while blogging! It is just the perfect way for me to spend my mornings.
Sadly, they are closed on my only day off so I can’t spend the entire day there. But I sure am enjoying it as a morning treat so far! Do y’all have any tricks for discovering a new city? Do you have a favorite bakery or coffee shop that you always frequent? Until next time, XO
Hello! Happy Thursday! One of the most classic outfits is a little black dress and pearls. Especially after Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, it is impossible not to associate this look with class and style.
With that said, a little black dress can work for almost any situation depending on the style. A more conservative, shift style dress is perfect for the work-place no matter the season. Of course, I know and am aware of this and love a little black dress as much as the next girl. However, sometimes it can get a little boring and monotonous to just wear a black dress over and over.
The key for mixing this up, for me, is accessories. Especially at work, I don’t want to go overboard, but it is important to me to stay true to my style and personality no matter the situation. With this look, I love the idea of adding a pop of color. Whether it is your shoes, jewelry, or a statement handbag, a little color can go a long way towards making your outfit more exciting.
As shockingly bright as these shoes are, they are surprisingly easy to wear because blue goes with almost everything. I love pairing them with black to make them pop even more. That’s all of today, so until next time! XO
Hello all! Happy Monday! If you’ve been following along here at Lefty Living Life for awhile, you will have noticed that I learn towards classic feminine pieces for my every day look. Classic shapes and styles have always been my go-to no matter what the occasion.
However, now that I am wearing skirts and dresses every day for work, it has been fun to further expand my wardrobe!
For me, the most classic pieces are a trench coat, a white-button down, and a black dress and I love how they all came together with this outfit. This trench coat is one of my favorite pieces in my wardrobe because it is the epitome of style and class especially since it is Ralph Lauren. What I love most about it though is that it was my first consignment purchase!
This dress is a great black-dress staple because it is versatile. The buttons make it so you don’t have to wear a big necklace and it is a thicker material so I’ve worn it by itself with flats in the summer or easily layered, like I did here.
Finally, the white-button down. If you don’t already have a white-button down, I would seriously consider investing in one. They add a tailored, finished look with a pair of jeans and flats and are perfect to layer under a sweater or dress when it is cooler. As someone who is always cold, but who doesn’t like shapeless sweaters, a button-down is a key layering piece for me.
As with any outfit, the key to making it awesome is how you accessorize. Cheetah print heels are always a great piece to add to a simpler dress. If your cheetah print has brown and black in it, add a brown bag to your outfit to tie in that brown from your shoes. Until next time, XO
Hello all! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. Today we are going to be talking a little about confidence and what that has to do with what I wear. I think everyone has experienced self-doubt or insecurities about their appearance at one point or another. I certainly have a lot over the years and it is something that I deal with everyday. But the way I deal with it is through what I wear. My goal in the morning is not to have the cutest or trendiest outfit, it is to feel awesome in whatever I am wearing. Whether it is jeans and a t-shirt or a dress and heels, if I feel good about myself in my outfit then I have succeeded that day.
Now some outfits make you feel good and other outfits make you feel like you can take over the world without even trying. I call those outfits my power outfits because they make me feel powerful and strong. This dress is one of those power outfits. Every time I put it on, I feel incredible and beautiful, but also like I can handle anything life has to throw at me.
I know it’s a little cheesy, but feeling good in your clothes is so important so make sure that you feel incredible in whatever you are wearing. XO
I think we can all agree that I wear a lot of statement pieces, and for some, it can be very difficult to integrate those pieces into their everyday wardrobe. But for me, statement pieces are my comfort zone. Give me a big bold necklace and mixed patterns any day over a plain black dress. For some reason I always struggle with simpler basics. So, whenever I do have a simpler piece, I try and make distinct outfits with it using my accessories.
I really love this dress because it is incredibly comfortable and is made of thicker fabric so even though it’s short, I don’t get as cold when wearing it. The button details are great, but have been very difficult for me because it is almost impossible to wear a necklace that won’t interfere with the buttons! My worst nightmare! Accessory-wise, necklace is already out because of the buttons. I also wouldn’t wear heels with it because it is already a little short for me. So of course, I first decided to go with statement earrings and shoes. Cheetah is such an easy statement piece to wear because it is made up of neutral colors so it goes with almost everything. Outfit one, check!
Outfit two randomly came together as I was reading an article about Olivia Palermo. We will talk about her more here in the future, but she is one my style icons and somehow always finds a way to look fabulous wearing flats. The article suggested wearing a button-down under a black dress with flats. I was a little skeptical because normally wearing a button-down with flats makes my outfit a little more masculine than I would like. But then I remembered this dress and it seemed perfect for this experiment! And it totally was! Hello preppy school girl uniform with a twist! I’m not going to lie, this might be my new aesthetic for fall 🙂
I would love to hear y’all’s opinions about these two outfits and if you have any more ideas about how to wear this dress! XO
