A new year is basically a clean slate. You can start over on a project, try and pick up a habit, change something in your life, really anything you want and it is an easier marker to use. I try and be one of those people where it doesn’t matter what day you start something new, as long as you start it. But today, everything seemed to fall into place and it was the perfect time to launch the new and improved Lefty Living Life.
What makes an outfit great, in my opinion, is the details. Anyone can wear a cute dress or a sweater and a pair of boots, but it is the small details and add-ons that take an outfit to the next level.
This is kind of embarrassing, but I’ve had this dress since my freshman year in high school. Every time I try and get rid of it, I find another outfit it would go perfectly with. The funny thing about it is that every time I wear it, someone comments about how cute it is and asks me if it’s new. I wore it not long ago
, but changing up the accessories gives it a completely new look.
I love using this ribbon as a belt because it literally ties together any outfit and the bow is the perfect amount of girly detail. For me, the belt and the dress were cute, but were seriously lacking in sparkle. So, loving my sparkles and having no self-control, I piled on two necklaces for that extra punch.
When layering necklaces, I have two secrets. One, if you want to vary in length, stick to a consistent color palette like this
. Two, if you want to vary in color, stick to a consistent length. They don’t need to fall exactly the same, but the close grouping will make the varied color palette look intentional and cool. Until next time, XO
One of my favorite things about winter clothes, other than turtlenecks, is layering. Layering is such a fun way to experiment with different pieces, mix patterns, and have fun with your outfits. One of my favorite things about layering is combining different textures. I love the idea of wearing fur or a big sweater with feminine lace. The combination makes the pieces more interesting and adds extra depth to any outfit. XO
The hardest thing for me about wearing a statement piece or something patterned is that it is so easy to say this is enough and not add anything to the outfit. Although this is great sometimes and one of the beauties of statement pieces, I always try and do something a little extra with my outfits. This lace shirt definitely doesn’t need anything extra, but the sparkles from the necklace pulls out the lacy quality and emphasizes the lace in a way that you don’t notice without the necklace. Lesson from today? Sometimes Coco is right and you should take off something before leaving the house. But sometimes, that last piece adds the extra punch that an outfit needs to be perfect. XO

Hello from D.C.! It has been a crazy fun adventure so far filled with museums, good food, and lots of walking. Some of my favorite things so far have been exploring Eastern Market, visiting the National Gallery of Art, and seeing Julia Child’s kitchen. I had never been to Eastern Market before and outdoor markets are one of my favorite things so I had a ball. Plus we went to this incredible book store that was a total fire hazard but was such a quirky hole in the wall. The National Gallery was obviously amazing. There were so many incredible works and I fan girled over art the entire time. A dream day for me! Finally, today we went to the Museum of American History where they have Julia Child’s kitchen. Julia was obviously an awesome cook, but she also personalized her kitchen. She was very tall so she had everything raised to make things easier for her, which I thing is one of the coolest things. I have always loved Julia and my mom and her are the main reasons I wanted to be a chef for so long. I also love that she personalized her kitchen. The kitchen is one of the main places that I notice my left-handedness and I would love to personalize my kitchen so it is left-handed. Maybe one day! XO
It is always harder to wear certain things if they have a weird connotation. Take leather shorts for example. My immediate reaction is leather booty shorts that are probably extremely inappropriate. But these are leather shorts. And they aren’t inappropriate! So how do you wear them? I think the key is to keep in mind that stereotype so you don’t fall into it, but then just do what you want. My philosophy when it comes to fashion is to wear what you like and what makes you happy. No matter what is in style or what everyone else is wearing. So that is what I did and here is the Taylor take on Leather Shorts! XO
So I will also be doing a new thing every post. At the bottom, before the links, there is going to be a fun fact of some kind so y’all can get to know me. Feel free to tell me your fun facts in the comments!
