As we are finally transitioning into fall weather wise, the next week or so of blog posts are going to be all about how to transition clothes into fall and how I am experimenting with my fall wardrobe this year. One of my favorite things to do with my wardrobe is to take a piece that easily fits into one category and make it work for something else. For example, a tulle skirt with flowers fits pretty squarely into my summer/ evening out wardrobe. But, I love this skirt so much and I wanted to find a way to make it work for fall.
With that goal in mind, I had two main challenges…dress down the skirt so it would work for everyday and make it temperature appropriate for fall. Whenever I am trying to dress something down, I always gravitate towards cute tees and tennis shoes. Tennis shoes didn’t look cute with this skirt and I wanted to try something a little different anyways. This polka dot tee fit the bill perfectly because it toned down the skirt and added another awesome pattern. Pattern mixing is fabulous and I love doing it in unexpected ways like polka dots and floral.
The shoes were easy for this look. Without heels, I felt a little dumpy and the coral from the wedges picked up a coral flower in the skirt. Easy peasy. With that all done, I still needed to make the look warmer for fall and it needed to be toned down a little too. This sweater blazer was just the thing. First of all, I’ve been dying to wear it for weeks. It added the perfect mix of fall with the thicker material and the deep burgundy color. Secondly, because it’s a little slouchy it toned down the outfit so I felt more comfortable for work.
Challenging yourself like this is always great because it expands your wardrobe so much. It can definitely be a challenge, but set yourself clear goals and start off easy. A black tank with the sweater would have worked just as well if you aren’t ready to transition something to fall and mix patterns. Until next time, XO
Salut and happy Thursday! For those of you who don’t know, salut is a way to casually greet people in French. I have already worn this tee once recently, but I love it so much that I wanted to wear it a couple more times before it gets too cold. Dressing up an already casual piece has always been an outfit staple for me and I am so excited that I finally have another tee to experiment with. As much as I love my NY Times tee, I have been wearing it a lot lately it seems.
Anyways, in my opinion, this is the best time to experiment with different pieces and layering. The weather isn’t so cold that you need a coat or tights, but you can still layer comfortably. With an outfit like this, a cardigan and over-the-knee boots were the only additions I needed to be comfortable. A big necklace and pink lipstick were the perfect finishing touches to make this look work-appropriate.
Do you have a favorite tee you like to experiment with? Until next time, XO.
Hello all! Happy Hump Day! The best part of my new job other than the job itself and the fact that I can walk to work is the fact that I have Monday off. I’ve been trying to utilize all of my Monday free time, but this week, I took off and had a fun social Monday!
I drove over to Winston-Salem to see one of my best friends, have brunch, and she was nice enough to take these fabulous pictures for me. One of my favorite things is being able to sit down with friends over some good food and catch up and discuss life.
This week in North Carolina has been my favorite type of weather. It’s been a little cooler, in the high 70s, low 80s, which has been a nice change. I like it because I can layer and do interesting things with my outfit, but it’s still nice enough that you can be outside and be comfortable.
This shirt is great for this kind of weather because it is sleeveless but is also made of a thicker material so it gave me a little warmth. It also looked adorable under my leather jacket when I went out to dinner! The necklace and snarky purse were the perfect final additions to make this outfit. Until next time, XO
Hello all! I hope your Thursday has gone well. This has been the weirdest week for me at work and I am so ready for the weekend. But before we get to relaxing this weekend, let’s talk about summer work wear first.
As you probably already know, I am always a skirt or dress girl when I have the option. Sure, I love a good pair of jeans, but I gravitate towards dresses and skirts- especially when shopping. This skirt, is the newest addition to my wardrobe. You almost can’t tell in the photos, but it is a very skinny pin stripe, which I love. It gives it that professional, corporate air without being too over the top.
What initially drew me to this skirt was the cinched waist and bow. I always feel more comfortable with a defined waist tailored into my clothing. This can be difficult to find sometimes, especially with summer silhouettes. But, I knew right away that no matter how it fit, the bow would give me the definition that I was looking for.
The best part about this skirt for me is definitely the pockets. Any skirt or dress with pockets is a winner in my book because then I don’t have to worry about carrying around my phone. It can just stay in my pocket and I don’t have to worry about it. Until tomorrow! And if you’ve been watching my Instagram story, the recipe will be up on Sunday! XO

Hello all! I spent the entire evening baking, and man do I have an awesome recipe to share with y’all on Sunday! One of the things I’m most looking forward to when I move and start my new job is having some more time to experiment with my baking. I have been pinning up a storm with new ideas and I could always use suggestions, so email me if you have any!
August is going to be such an exciting time for me because I am moving into my first apartment on my own and starting a completely new job. It is a totally blank slate for me and I couldn’t be more thrilled about it. As I am starting off on this new journey, I’ve been thinking about other journeys that I’ve taken…going to college, studying abroad, the journey that has been the last year. All of them started in August, so it seems only fitting that I start again this August.
Anything new in August always makes me think of going back to school and while I won’t be starting school this August, it didn’t seem right that I should miss out on back to school fashion! Every year for my first day of the year, I would always meticulously plan my outfit so it was as fabulous as possible. This outfit is made up of some of my favorite pieces right now and I just felt great when I put it on… exactly how you should feel on the first day of school.
This adorable backpack from Kate Spade was the perfect finishing touch. It let me channel my new journey vibes and I got so many compliments on it when I went to a local bakery before work! Stay tuned for the awesome recipe this weekend and some fun outfit posts tomorrow and Saturday! Until then, XO.

Hello all! This week, as I’ve tried to be work-place professional, I’ve also been trying to integrate neon pieces into my outfits. From this post, I think you could probably tell I love neon, but sometimes it can be so over the top and just feel like too much at work. However, I am all about a challenge and I think this outfit really manages to make neon appropriate in any situation.
The first key was finding the right neon piece. At work, a neon shift dress like this or a neon necklace over black is easy. You maintain your typical work place uniform, but make it more interesting with color. Also, it is very hard to be unprofessional when wearing a shift dress!
Once you choose your piece, it is important that the rest of your outfit is a little more subdued and very business professional. Now I am not normally one to say tone it down, but at there is a time and a place for everything and an office job is not the time or the place for an extremely over the top outfit.
My go-to when trying to be professional is a shift dress, suit jacket, and statement necklace so it was easy to transition those over to this dress. A light gray suit jacket is perfect of summer because it lightens up your outfit while also making your more summery pieces business-like.
Finally, my favorite part of this outfit is my bag. I just got it from the Kate Spade sale and it is absolutely perfect for work. The style is professional and it is big enough to hold my computer and all of my other stuff without being too overly large. Well, that’s all for now, so until next time, XO

Hello all! Happy Saturday! Today marks the start of a new Saturday blog series and I can’t wait to hear your feedback. Starting today, Saturday blog posts are going to center around fashion and outfit posts, but also answer a question about how to wear a certain trend or item of clothing, or just give ideas in general about how to integrate certain pieces into your wardrobe. Just like with my other blog series, I would love to hear your feedback and I welcome any and all suggestions!
So, here goes! As you know, My typical color palette leans towards girly pastels and jewel tones, but I’ve been loving the new neon trends and have been trying to find ways to integrate those bright colors into my summer wardrobe.
My first suggestions if you are hesitant on the neon, start with something small like neon earrings, a necklace, or some kind of accessory. Then, you don’t have to commit your entire outfit to the neon trend, but can still mix your typical color palette up. These earrings and this necklace are absolutely to die for and would look great against black, navy or white. Also both are on sale at J.Crew right now!
If you are feeling more adventurous with your neon additions, finding a neon dress is a full commitment, but does take out some of the work of trying to pair a top or a bottom with it. Personally, I think a neon dress or top is the best option. Neon bottoms seem like a lot and a neon top is easy to wear with jeans or white jeans and easy to tone down with a cardigan or a jean jacket thrown on top.
If you are going the dress route, make sure the dress itself fits well and is something you are comfortable in. You don’t want to branch out with color and style at the same time because you will feel overwhelmed. I like both of these options because they are pretty simple in design, but are both flattering. Both also focus on one neon color, not multiple. Wearing one neon color is enough if you ask me.
Once you find your neon piece, the hardest thing for me was accessorizing. I think the key is going simple. Nude shoes (black would work well too I think) looked great and classed up the outfits without adding any additional colors or details.
Jewelry-wise, I think the darker color the better. Of course, I couldn’t not wear a necklace and I struggled to find ones that looked good. But, I discovered that if your necklace is a darker tone than your neon, then it helps to quiet the loud color a little bit. With this, as with anything else, the key is to be confident and also to feel comfortable. You will never be able to walk out of your house with your head high if you are uncomfortable so know your limits. Make sure to leave comments below and see you next time! XO

Yellow Dress Outfit
I absolutely adore pink, which you probably know by now if you’ve been following the blog for a while since I tend to wear a lot of pink. When my love of pink first began to develop, I inadvertently ended up wearing it almost every day. So now, I always try and incorporate a little pink into my outfit even if it isn’t the highlight of the outfit. These shoes are the perfect options becuase they are a subtle pink that adds to the outfit but they don’t detract from other aspects. Speaking of highlighters, this bag is so neon it is almost difficult to find things to match it. My necklace doesn’t exactly match, but matching perfectly is kind of boring if you ask me. Plus the green from the necklace is far enough away from the neon bag that they don’t clash. I love this bag because it is one of those pieces that makes me smile. Every time I pull it out of my closet, I can’t help but grin a little and the wonderful tongue and cheek that is Kate Spade. So thank you Kate for making my day once again. XO
You should watch the newest installment of the Kate Spade #missadventure series! It was such a nice break from homework today! XO
As you know, I adore pink and these pale pink heels are my favorite! But I always have a hard time finding the right occasion to wear them. With a dress, they are a little too formal for any event that I currently attend, but with jeans they are perfect! They add that little pizazz I am always searching for plus what’s not to love about pale pink heels!
My last semester of college starts on Tuesday and I am nervous, but excited. The real world is a scary plus, but also so incredibly wonderful and amazing. This is going to be a year to remember so make sure to keep up here on Lefty by subscribing to our newsletter on the right or following us on facebook! XO
