As we all know from this post and others, I love my sequins. Whenever any one asks, I always describe my style as classic with a feminine touch and sequins always add that extra touch that my otherwise classic pieces need. Recently I’ve been loving my sequined skirts and pairing them with big, chunky knits. The juxtaposition in style and texture is so fun and gives my sequined pieces a new, fun twist.
I’ve been obsessed with this sequined pencil skirt since I got it, but I’ve had a little trouble transitioning it into my every day wardrobe. However, now that it is holiday season, this skirt is perfect for all of my holiday parties and other events. Dress is up with a nice top or give it a cozy edge with a big sweater like this. Either way, I’m in love and you don’t have to worry about accessories when you have a fab skirt like this! Even though the sweater tones the look down a little, it is still appropriate for any event you have and the skirt is on mega sale right now, so much so that you will probably only be able to find it in stores at J.Crew! How would you integrate sequins into your wardrobe? I would love to hear your thoughts and maybe I can experiment for both of us! Until next time…
Hello all and Happy Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving is probably my favorite holiday because it is all about food and there are no expectations. You don’t have to worry about gifts or anything like that, you can just enjoy good food and friends and family.
This year I am thankful for so much, but I am especially thankful for all of you. You have been so supportive of me and this blog and all of my ventures and I can’t thank you enough. Enjoy this time to take a breath and I hope you have a fabulous Thanksgiving!
Outfit-wise, I wanted to keep it a little more casual this year but still be cozy. For me, that meant this fabulous furry vest. I love anything furry because it not only keeps you warm but also feels cozy when you are wearing it. Paired with a sparkly necklace and cheetah print, this outfit will probably become my go-to winter look when I don’t have to dress up.
Thank you again for everything and happy Thanksgiving!
Cheetah print is by far my favorite print. I love it no matter where or not it is on shoes, a scarf, or a fabulous jacket like this! I originally wasn’t going to get this coat because I already have a furry cheetah vest, seen here, but I just couldn’t help myself! It was just too fabulous to pass up. My original hesitation was how does one even wear a cheetah print coat without looking silly? So for my first outfit, I decided to keep it pretty basic with all chambray and pearls. The coat added the perfect pop to an otherwise simple outfit. I am not going to lie, I’ve already worn this coat 4 times and I’ve only had it for a week. I can’t wait to see what else I can pair it with this winter!
P.S. if you aren’t already signed up for my newsletter, you definitely should! First of all, you will get updates on all of my new posts, but you will also receive my new weekly newsletter with style insights, early ebay postings, and sneak peaks into what I do behind the scenes and what is coming up on the blog.
Every year, I always talk about how no white after Labor Day is a dumb rule that we should actively ignore. And I normally do ignore it, especially while it’s still hot and then I occasionally mix some cream into my winter wardrobe. But I normally don’t make a statement quite this bold. When I put on this sweater the other day, the thought of putting on black pants or dark jeans made me shutter. It feels like that is all I wear these days and I really wanted to mix it up. Then, I saw my white pants sticking out of my drawer and it was one of those why not moments. Worst that can happen is I don’t like so I take them off. But instead, I loved them. The white against white was so bold and gave my outfit the perfect statement I had been looking for. It was freezing too, so I warmed up with one of my favorite winter drinks…hot chocolate. That is the start to a perfect morning- a yummy drink and an outfit coming together!
Staying with the layering theme, an easy way to begin a layered outfit is with a black skirt and a white button down. This is a classic combination that you know will look good and is probably in your comfort zone. You also could substitute the black skirt for jeans or black pants. From there, add a crew-neck sweater with a fun pattern or a little color to brighten up the look. To finish it, add a brightly colored, but solid vest so it isn’t too much with the pattern of your sweater.
For finishing touches, I like a big, but simpler necklace and fun shoes. The white soles on the bottom of these shoes was the perfect tie in to my white button-down. The key to an outfit like this is to inject your personality to make it yours. For me, that meant my leather skirt instead of jeans and fun, neon polka dots. But for you, it could be something completely different. You can still follow this formula, just personalize it so you are comfortable in it.
Not only is an outfit like this fun, but it is also extremely comfortable and will keep you warm on these crisp fall days. Happy weekend!
P.S. As always, my glasses are from The View on Elm…for more info on these or my glasses in general, just email me!
I am so exited about this outfit! As soon as I saw this skirt online, I knew I wanted to wear it with a big chunky sweater and motorcycle boots. I’ve just been waiting for it to be cold enough to actually wear my outfit. It is finally cold enough here to start wearing winter clothes and I was so pleased. Sometimes when I imagine an outfit, it doesn’t always come together as I expect it to. But this outfit, was exactly what I was hoping it would be. The chunky layers and boots toned down the sequins a little and were a nice juxtaposition between textures and and vibe. This is normally what I am looking for in an outfit because it is fun and girly, but definitely has some classic elements. So yay for sequins and winter weather and have a fabulous week!
It shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that I love turtlenecks and try and wear them whenever possible. My favorite turtlenecks are these thin, form fitting turtlenecks from J.Crew. First of all, they are extremely comfortable and come in a bunch of colors. These are great to wear on their own or under a jacket. The best thing about these turtlenecks though is that they are relatively thin so they are very easy to layer. I love wearing them under a dress like this or a chunky sweater. Don’t let a turtleneck scare you or make you think you can’t do lots of interesting things. Especially this time of year when the weather is unpredictable, a turtleneck is a great way to transition some of your summer pieces into fall or your fall pieces into winter. Turtlenecks might have a bad name, but they are really the perfect layering piece and the basis of my fall and winter wardrobe. Happy Friday and have a fabulous weekend and make sure to check out my baking recipe from last night on my Instagram story! Until next time, XO
Burgundy is one of my all time favorite colors to wear. It is always hard to lighten it up in the summer, but fall is just perfect for burgundy no matter what you wear it with. The main reason I started wearing burgundy is that it looks good with my dark hair and pale skin. But it is really great for anyone trying to make their outfit feel more fall appropriate. This top for example, is not very heavy but the color makes it feel appropriate for fall. I really needed a dark color as well to go under this light, cheetah print coat. This coat is definitely going to be my new go-to this fall and winter. First of all it’s cheetah print so I am already obsessed. But, what really got me is the detailing in the back. From the front, this is just a classic coat, but the ruched detail in the back gives the cut of a coat a more flattering, feminine look. Plus, did I mention it has pockets?! Already in love! Have a fabulous Thursday and don’t forget to come by Swoozie’s in Friendly Center in Greensboro tonight to see me and get some great deals at their anniversary sale! Until next time, XO
As you know, I’ve been experimenting with lipsticks a lot more and loving it. My go-to brand right now is NARS because I love the texture of their lipsticks and they stay on all day with barely any help. For fall, I wanted to branch out a little bit and try something new so I got this dark purple, almost black, lipstick. It is definitely more aggressive then what I normally wear, but it is perfect for transitioning clothes. This outfit for example, I wore this exact outfit in August and it felt very summery and appropriate. However, with the dark lipstick, it is immediately a fall outfit. The dark purple complimented the navy of my blazer and my green necklace so well and makes the white perfectly appropriate for a warm October day.
Other than making my outfit the perfect transition piece, this lipstick is also fabulous. It did not fade at all throughout the day. and went on very smoothly. My biggest problem with dark, matte lipsticks is that they typically dry out my lips and mouth throughout the day and you end up with a dark line around your lips and no color in the middle. This lipstick has a surprisingly amount of moisture so my lips didn’t dry out at all. Plus the color didn’t move whether I was eating or drinking. So far, my experience with NARS has been so amazing product wise and customer service wise. I would really highly recommend them and I’d love to hear what y’all think about them. Until next time, XO
Growing up in the South, I was always told no white after Labor Day. Well, let me tell you, I think that is a load of crap. I hate rules that tell me I can’t do things. Especially now that winter white is a trend, don’t be afraid to break the rules a little. Of course, wearing a white lace dress in the dead of winter probably isn’t the best plan, but a white wool skirt is perfect for transitioning into cooler weather and brightening up your winter wardrobe. Pair it with some dark neutrals and some bright details and you will be set.
