Navy and pink have always been on of my favorite color combinations. But since I wear it so much, I try and get creative with my details to mix things up. Now that it is cooler, my favorite things to add are fur and sparkles. This sweater vest has become one of my favorite pieces because it is warm and cozy but also brings that old world elegance to an outfit. However, this sweater might be my new favorite piece. It is such a rich color navy and it is very soft. My favorite thing though is the ruffled sleeves. I thought they would bother me at work, but I didn’t even notice them. Definitely my new favorite detail! XO

Stripes and Fur

Mixing patterns is almost always a case by case situation. Sure I have rules about matching scale and matching color palettes, but at the end of the day, you normally just have to try it on and see how it looks. Last night for example, I tried on this turtleneck with this skirt. In my head, it looked awesome. In real life, I looked like a striped mess. It was bad.
But other times, mixing patterns works! I didn’t even think about this vest being plaid until I put it on, but it ended up working really well with the stripes.
Any suggestions, ideas, or questions about mixing patterns? I’d love to hear them! XO

Pink and Fur
It definitely does not look like fall here yet, however it is finally starting to feel like it, which means it is finally time for sweaters, fun layers, and tights! Fall has always been my favorite season because I love the colors, in nature and clothes, and it’s a little chilly, but you can still enjoy being outside. Other than jewel tones, my favorite fall fashion thing is fur. I love how it immediately gives your outfit an old world feel and how it can easily dress up knits or other casual aspects of your outfit, which makes this fur/knit vest the perfect statement sweater whether I wear it by itself or layered under a coat in winter.
On a completely different note, I’ve recently had some people comment on my level of formality and I thought now would be the perfect time to discuss it.  I have always been one to slightly overdress for every occasion. And I also adore dresses, skirts, heels, and big sparkly jewelry. This is a potent combination as I would wear this outfit just as quickly to work as I would hanging out at home on a Saturday. Especially now, being a little dressy has become as much a part as my daily style as a big necklace or pink. XO

If you don’t already know about Chloe and Isabel, you should definitely check them out because they have really cute stuff for a great price. Anyways, this clip is from them and is super cute and very versatile…my new favorite accessory! XO

Shades of Blue

Hello all! I was not joking when I said it was winter here! Yesterday it didn’t even get above freezing, which for North Carolina is pretty cold. But I stayed pretty warm in my winter gear. My coat is the same one from last year and is one of my favorite things in my closet. It has a bunch of pockets, is easy to layer under, and is super warm- perfect for walking to class or going to work. My gloves are brand new, Mom gave them to me for Christmas. My hands are always cold, but they are very small so I have always had a hard time finding gloves to fit me. These are perfect. I love the bright blue too because it adds that awesome pop of color to my very dark winter wardrobe. My trusty pink purse also helped with the lack of color 🙂 I can never get it to work with the widget, so here is the link…I would highly recommend it. I mean y’all see how often I use it! How are y’all surviving in the cold? XO

Tuesday Top 10

So this week’s top 10 is very music focused as lots of exciting things have happened involving music and artists that I love this week. XO

1. Y’all know my two best friends, Kate and McKenzie. They frequently make appearances on here and McKenzie has her incredible blog, The Z List. Well, McKenzie and I finally convinced Kate to start her own blog, Gambling on the Stars! I am very excited to now live in a house full of bloggers and y’all should make sure to check out both of their blogs 🙂

2. One Direction just released their newest album and it’s pretty awesome! My favorite song so far is Infinity 🙂

3. I am a huge James Bond and the newest film, Spectre is incredible. Sam Smith sings the title song (so how could it be bad) and it was so well made. A must see if you are looking for something to do!

4. I have not been the biggest Justin Bieber song in the past, but I really love his new album, Purpose. It is definitely worth a listen.

5. J.Crew is having an incredible sale right now and y’all know how much I love “The Crew.” I know where I’ll be this weekend!

6. Adele released her second single today and it is just as show-stopping as Hello. I’ve been listening to it on repeat all day!

7. I’m sure you have been hearing about Paris and all of the other attacks all weekend, but I think it’s important that we all just take a second to be thankful for our own safety and pray for those who aren’t as lucky.

8. Thank goodness fall is here because I have been dying to wear my faux fur! Here are the pieces I’m most exciting about wearing this fall/winter.

9. Other than fur, I have also been obsessing over vintage clip-on earrings. They take a little while to get used to, but there are some incredible styles available. I shop at my local antique store, but Etsy is also a great resource for all things vintage.

10. This week marks the beginning of the Lefty Living Life newsletter. Every Monday, I will be sending out an email with an update on all of the posts from the last week. Sign up in the pop up you probably just x-ed out of or in the let’s keep in touch box on the right! Can’t wait to hear from you! XO

Fur and Flannel

It is finally cooler, which means I can wear my favorite fall/winter accessory- faux fur.

To me, wearing faux fur elevates an outfit and gives it that extra oomph to make is an awesome outfit. This sweater is a new addition to my wardrobe. I was a little nervous because it is so long and I don’t typically wear long sweaters. However, so far it has been incredible. I have only worn it a few times, but that extra length makes up for the fact that there are no sleeves. It is the perfect compliment to flannel or sweaters so expect to see if many more times before the end of fall! In other news, our adorable puppy Fitz is not so little anymore, but is still doing very well! We are still working on looking at the camera when we take pictures :).  XO

Burgundy and Pale Pink

My new favorite color combination is burgundy and pale pink. They are two of my favorite colors to wear in general, but together, they seem like the perfect fall combination. I am in Chicago for the first time this weekend for the BlogHer Food Conference. You are probably wondering why I am at a food blog conference when I am obviously not a food blogger. Well, as you probably remember, my mom is a food blogger, so originally came to support here. But since being here, I have learned so much about blogging in general so get ready for some fun new changes to Lefty Living Life in the near future. Also, my sparkly boots, they are actually rainbows and are on sale! I actually bought mine a size up and they fit perfectly so go get yours before they are sold out! Enjoy your Saturday! XO
