Let’s Make a Statement

Ok, so we all know that I love to make a statement, but I acknowledge that I am a lot more adventurous than most. But I think we should all try and be adventurous and I think we so easily get pigeon-holed with these fashion rules and I just think that is silly.

Hello all! I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Mine was good, very busy, but good. Right now, I am obsessed with layering so I can stay cozy whenever I go outside. My immediate tendency is go to all neutral layers, but I’ve been trying to experiment with different colors throughout my outfits. My favorite look right now is fall colors, especially burgundy. Normally I pair pink with all of my burgundy, but this time, I tried something a little different and I love these yellow stripes. It just feels so appropriate for this time of year and was the perfect outfit for this holiday weekend. I hope y’all enjoyed this time with your family and friends and got some great deals on Black Friday and Cyber Monday…I know I sure did!

In other exciting news, Lefty Living Life is getting a huge facelift over the next week so stay tuned for a whole new layout and an exciting new direction in December!

Until next time,

Hello all and Happy Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving is probably my favorite holiday because it is all about food and there are no expectations. You don’t have to worry about gifts or anything like that, you can just enjoy good food and friends and family.
This year I am thankful for so much, but I am especially thankful for all of you. You have been so supportive of me and this blog and all of my ventures and I can’t thank you enough. Enjoy this time to take a breath and I hope you have a fabulous Thanksgiving!
Outfit-wise, I wanted to keep it a little more casual this year but still be cozy. For me, that meant this fabulous furry vest. I love anything furry because it not only keeps you warm but also feels cozy when you are wearing it. Paired with a sparkly necklace and cheetah print, this outfit will probably become my go-to winter look when I don’t have to dress up.
Thank you again for everything and happy Thanksgiving!

Saying Goodbye to Winter with Pink and Fur

2017, OOTD, winter, over the knee boots, sparkly, fur, J.Crew, pink
Hello all! I can’t believe spring is already here, 2017 is already flying by. It is even more unbelievable since two weeks ago, it was barely getting about freezing! So this is probably going to be my last winter outfit post until fall, which is perfect because this look includes so many things that were staples for me this winter.

Between the over-the-knee boots, pink skirt, and sequined details, this outfit is everything I love about my winter clothes. Plus, I love these furry ear muffs, they are just too cute. They aren’t very practical or necessary here in North Carolina, but I love them and try to wear them at least once every so often.

The other thing I love about this outfit is the mix of textures. From the fur to the fuzzy scarf to the sequins to the wool skirt, there is such a variety of materials that play off each other so well. That is always the thing I miss most about winter clothes- layering things and creating interesting combinations. It is just so much easier to do when it’s cold outside!

As promised, this week I am going to tell you about Rome in addition to my outfit posts. So, let’s drive right in. We arrived in Rome pretty early Saturday morning and as excited as we were to explore, both Kate and I were in desperate need of a nap after the uncomfortable flight. But after our naps, we were ready to go!

That first day, we didn’t do any set activities, but wandered around and I introduced Kate to the city (she’d never been to Rome before). It seems like we walked every where in Rome that first day! We started at our Air BnB right near the Pantheon. We then walked to Piazza Navona, Castel Sant’Angelo, the Vatican, St. Peter’s Basilica, and ended up across the river in Trastevere (my favorite area of Rome and where I lived a couple of summers ago). Of course, for dinner, we started off our food tour on a high note with pizza and cannoli!

Hello all! Happy snow day! Here in North Carolina we saw our first wintry weather this weekend with a whole 9 inches of snow (that is a lot for us!). It has been fun bundling up and sitting in front of the fire drinking hot chocolate all weekend. And it came just in time for one of my favorite trends, winter pastels. Pastels are normally reserved for spring and summer, but there is something that is so refreshing and fun about wearing pale pink, green, and white in the middle of winter. I love how the colors jump out against the black coat and tights and how they add a little pizazz to my winter wardrobe. Also, these heels, while a little impractical in the snow, are perfect for dressing up a detailed sweatshirt like this one. Perfect for parties or something a little more fun at work.
I hope y’all have had a wonderful weekend! Until next time. XO

Lace and Fur

One of my favorite things about winter clothes, other than turtlenecks, is layering. Layering is such a fun way to experiment with different pieces, mix patterns, and have fun with your outfits. One of my favorite things about layering is combining different textures. I love the idea of wearing fur or a big sweater with feminine lace. The combination makes the pieces more interesting and adds extra depth to any outfit. XO

Pink and Tartan

So this year for Advent, my mom created an Advent calendar that has the typical candy, but also some other surprises. On December 2nd, I got one earring and had to wait eight days for the next one. The anticipation was so exciting, but it was also fun planning future outfits for when I finally got the second earring. This was such a fun way to create an advent calendar and I will definitely be doing this next year! Also look how cute the earrings I got are! I absolutely love them XO

Burgundy and Plaid

I am not normally a fan of overly matching my outfit, However, when one component is patterned and pulls in other colors, the matching is actually beneficial instead of boring. Another important thing to do when wearing a lot of the same color is to pull in other colors, like my black belt and vest and my pink purse in this case. This creates some variety and makes the matching colors work together as a base color against your accents.
On a completely other note, my current addiction and winter essential is my yeti. I got one for graduation and didn’t really know if I would ever use it. However, now that I commute for almost an hour every morning, my yeti is perfect for keeping my tea warm! I make my tea before I leave home in the morning and an hour later when I get to work, it is still boiling. I have been so impressed with the yeti and would definitely recommend one if you drink coffee or tea! XO

Turtleneck Thursdays

So I was talking to a friend the other day about my favorite thing, turtlenecks, and they were complaining about how it was impossible to wear a turtleneck with any jewelry or accessories. They hated how boring turtlenecks always looked to them.
I was shocked. Is it really the general understanding that you can’t wear jewelry, layers, earrings, or a scarf with a turtleneck? Throw that concept out the window right now! Turtlenecks are amazing and so versatile, you can wear them with almost anything.
To remedy this misunderstanding about turtlenecks, because I want y’all to love them as much as me plus I want your necks to be warm, I’m going to start a series on different ways to wear turtlenecks. Every Thursday there will be a new post. There will definitely be some old outfits, but it will all be fun!
Here is our first example. A turtleneck is the perfect base when layering. Wear a thinner, fitted turtleneck with a scarf so the neck doesn’t interfere with the scarf. Another good layering tip? Wear a sweater or light jacket under a vest for some extra warmth!
I would love to hear your input and ideas so make sure to comment below. XO

Winter Pink

During the warmer months, I tend to wear a lot of color, especially pink. But as soon as it gets colder, my wardrobe seems to shrink to include only black, navy, and merlot with an occasional inclusion of other colors. This year, I’ve been trying to include more of my summer colors- mainly pale pink if I’m being honest- in my winter wardrobe. It has been surprisingly easy so far as pale pink is the perfect foil for the deep jewel tones I stick to in winter. It can be hard to make summery clothes look appropriate for the season in November (I can’t believe December starts tomorrow!). But so far, I have found that when paired with tights, a fun sweater, and something furry, summery pieces fit right in! XO
