Halloween Holdover and New Clothes for Sale

Hello all! Life has been a little crazy as I have been sick, busy with work, and studying for the GRE/ applying for grad school. Sadly that means my baking has been put on the back burner so these cookies are a little late. As you know from my many adventures with cookies (here, here, and here) I love my recipe for sprinkle cookies and I love experimenting. For Halloween this year, I wanted to do Halloween themed cookies which meant Halloween sprinkles. These cookies are so easy to adapt for any occasion or holiday and they are delicious. I’m not going to lie, this batch, might be my best one ever and I am definitely enjoying them even though Halloween is over. If you are tired of candy, I’d be happy to ship you some! Just donate to the go-fund and message me with your info and I will send you a whole box!
In other news, there are also a few new items up for sale on my ebay page! Now that it is starting to get cold, it seemed like the perfect time to start looking at coats and sweaters. Check it out and if you are looking for anything in particular, please let me know because I might have just the thing!

 Ingredients:
1 cup butter, room temp
1 1/2 cups of sugar
1 egg
1 egg yolk
2 teaspoons vanilla
3 cups flour
1 1/4 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
1 teaspoon cornstarch
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup sprinkles
Frosting: 3/4 cup butter, room temp
2 1/4 cup confectioner’s sugar
3 tablespoons heavy cream
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/8 teaspoon salt
Directions:
With an electric mixer, cream the butte and sugar until light, about 2 mins. Add egg, egg yolk, and vanilla. Scrape bowl as needed.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, cornstarch, and salt. Slowly add to the butter mixture on low speed and mix until combined. Gently mix in the sprinkles by hand. Cover and chill for at least 3 hours.
Remove from the fridge and preheat oven to 325. Let cookies sit at room temperature for 15 minutes unless you have chilled them overnight. If so, let them sit for about 30-40 minutes.
Form dough into balls. Bake for 9-10 minutes until the edges are slightly browned. The centers will appear soft. Allow to cool on pan for 3 minutes then transfer to wire rack to cool. They need to be completely chilled before you frost them.
Frosting: With a hand mixer, beat the butter until creamy. Add confectioners’ sugar, cream, vanilla, and salt and mix on low speed until combined then increase the speed and mix for about 3 minutes. Add more sugar or cream if too thick or thin.
Place as much frosting as you like on the cookies and then finish with sprinkles.

Staying with the layering theme, an easy way to begin a layered outfit is with a black skirt and a white button down. This is a classic combination that you know will look good and is probably in your comfort zone. You also could substitute the black skirt for jeans or black pants. From there, add a crew-neck sweater with a fun pattern or a little color to brighten up the look. To finish it, add a brightly colored, but solid vest so it isn’t too much with the pattern of your sweater.
For finishing touches, I like a big, but simpler necklace and fun shoes. The white soles on the bottom of these shoes was the perfect tie in to my white button-down. The key to an outfit like this is to inject your personality to make it yours. For me, that meant my leather skirt instead of jeans and fun, neon polka dots. But for you, it could be something completely different. You can still follow this formula, just personalize it so you are comfortable in it.
Not only is an outfit like this fun, but it is also extremely comfortable and will keep you warm on these crisp fall days. Happy weekend!
P.S. As always, my glasses are from The View on Elm…for more info on these or my glasses in general, just email me!

My favorite thing about fall is layering, which is probably pretty obvious from this outfit. I am naturally very cold-natured so I always need a jacket or something like that in addition to my outfit. So layering is right up my alley. Whenever I wear an outfit like this, I always get questions about how I put it together and let me tell you, the answer is gradually.
You need to start with your base first, which in an outfit like this is the flannel, jeans, and shoes. It is finally starting to get cool here so I knew I wanted at least one cozy layer and I wasn’t really feeling a necklace so my next layer was the vest. If I had added jewelry, that makes it easier to determine the other layers because I would have wanted to keep them relatively simple. Anyways, to choose the cheetah vest, a lot of it came down to the fact that I hadn’t worn it yet and I was dying to wear it.
Once my vest was on, I needed one more layer, but it need to be really simple to not be over the top with the flannel and the vest. Thus another fabulous reason to have a leather jacket for fall! Yay for fall weather!

Happy Halloween!

Hello all! While Halloween is not one of my favorite holidays, I have finally found a costume that I love to wear and is perfect for Halloween…Audrey Hepburn from Breakfast at Tiffany’s. This outfit is so easy to put together with things you already have in your closet and it fits well into my style. I think what I don’t like about wearing a costume is because it makes me feel uncomfortable. This outfit though, is almost something that I would wear on a regular day so I still feel comfortable and fabulous even though I’m wearing a costume. I hope you had a fabulous Halloween and Happy November!

I am so exited about this outfit! As soon as I saw this skirt online, I knew I wanted to wear it with a big chunky sweater and motorcycle boots. I’ve just been waiting for it to be cold enough to actually wear my outfit. It is finally cold enough here to start wearing winter clothes and I was so pleased. Sometimes when I imagine an outfit, it doesn’t always come together as I expect it to. But this outfit, was exactly what I was hoping it would be. The chunky layers and boots toned down the sequins a little and were a nice juxtaposition between textures and and vibe. This is normally what I am looking for in an outfit because it is fun and girly, but definitely has some classic elements. So yay for sequins and winter weather and have a fabulous week!

Leather and Lace

One of the reasons I love layering so much, other than the warmth and the turtlenecks, is mixing textures and patterns. Mixing textures can be so unexpected, but even if they are all neutrals, it adds an extra oomph to any outfit. I especially love mixing leather and lace. They are an unexpected combination, but the lace gives the leather that girly touch that I am always looking for in an outfit. In turn, the leather helps to toughen up the lace and make it more sophisticated. Adding a chunky turtleneck and cheetah print heels into the mix was icing on the cake to this otherwise neutral outfit. What are your favorite things to layer in fall? Until next time, XO

P.S. I just realized it’s Thursday so this marks the first official Turtleneck Thursday of fall 2017!

It shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that I love turtlenecks and try and wear them whenever possible. My favorite turtlenecks are these thin, form fitting turtlenecks from J.Crew. First of all, they are extremely comfortable and come in a bunch of colors. These are great to wear on their own or under a jacket. The best thing about these turtlenecks though is that they are relatively thin so they are very easy to layer. I love wearing them under a dress like this or a chunky sweater. Don’t let a turtleneck scare you or make you think you can’t do lots of interesting things. Especially this time of year when the weather is unpredictable, a turtleneck is a great way to transition some of your summer pieces into fall or your fall pieces into winter. Turtlenecks might have a bad name, but they are really the perfect layering piece and the basis of my fall and winter wardrobe. Happy Friday and have a fabulous weekend and make sure to check out my baking recipe from last night on my Instagram story! Until next time, XO

Burgundy and Cheetah

Burgundy is one of my all time favorite colors to wear. It is always hard to lighten it up in the summer, but fall is just perfect for burgundy no matter what you wear it with. The main reason I started wearing burgundy is that it looks good with my dark hair and pale skin. But it is really great for anyone trying to make their outfit feel more fall appropriate. This top for example, is not very heavy but the color makes it feel appropriate for fall. I really needed a dark color as well to go under this light, cheetah print coat. This coat is definitely going to be my new go-to this fall and winter. First of all it’s cheetah print so I am already obsessed. But, what really got me is the detailing in the back. From the front, this is just a classic coat, but the ruched detail in the back gives the cut of a coat a more flattering, feminine look. Plus, did I mention it has pockets?! Already in love! Have a fabulous Thursday and don’t forget to come by Swoozie’s in Friendly Center in Greensboro tonight to see me and get some great deals at their anniversary sale! Until next time, XO

A Dress On Its Own

As we all know, I love to mix and match and create outfits with many different pieces. But sometimes, it is nice to have a piece where you don’t have to work hard, it just looks cute all on its own. This dress is one of those pieces. It is fitted in all of the right places so you don’t need a jacket or a belt, it is of a heavier material so you also don’t need another layer for warmth, and finally, it is interesting enough on its own that you could add jewelry, but you don’t have to. Of course, I couldn’t resist so I added some little layered necklaces, but otherwise, I kept it pretty simple.
If you missed it earlier today, these are some of the new pieces that will be up on my eBay site this week. I am loving being able to share my clothes with you and I would love to hear your feedback if you have any.
Finally, I have some exciting news coming up over the next couple of weeks that I can’t wait to share with you about my new friendship with Swoozie’s. In the meantime though, for all of my Greensboro friends, you should come to their anniversary party tomorrow! I will definitely be there and I would love to see some of you there! As always, the links to all of the items in this outfit are below. Just scroll through the pictures to see the complete look! Until next time, XO

2017, OOTD, fall, J.Crew, Nars, statement lip, winter white,
As you know, I’ve been experimenting with lipsticks a lot more and loving it. My go-to brand right now is NARS because I love the texture of their lipsticks and they stay on all day with barely any help. For fall, I wanted to branch out a little bit and try something new so I got this dark purple, almost black, lipstick. It is definitely more aggressive then what I normally wear, but it is perfect for transitioning clothes. This outfit for example, I wore this exact outfit in August and it felt very summery and appropriate. However, with the dark lipstick, it is immediately a fall outfit. The dark purple complimented the navy of my blazer and my green necklace so well and makes the white perfectly appropriate for a warm October day.
Other than making my outfit the perfect transition piece, this lipstick is also fabulous. It did not fade at all throughout the day. and went on very smoothly. My biggest problem with dark, matte lipsticks is that they typically dry out my lips and mouth throughout the day and you end up with a dark line around your lips and no color in the middle. This lipstick has a surprisingly amount of moisture so my lips didn’t dry out at all. Plus the color didn’t move whether I was eating or drinking. So far, my experience with NARS has been so amazing product wise and customer service wise. I would really highly recommend them and I’d love to hear what y’all think about them. Until next time, XO
