Hello all! Not much to say this morning as I am very behind on a lot of things, but I will have some exciting announcements this weekend so stay tuned! Is this top not the cutest? I just picked it up in the sale room at Anthropologie and am already in love! Until next time, XO
There are some pieces that you can always rely on and can’t go wrong with. A black top for example, which is the basis for any wardrobe is one such piece. It is important to have a simple black t-shirt when you just want to throw one on, but it is equally important to have one with a little detail. I like this one because the little ruffle detail is subtle but makes it look complete without a cardigan or a jacket.
This kind of top is perfect for experimenting with statement necklaces because you essentially have a blank canvas. Almost any jewelry you wear will look good against black. I like to wear lighter colors that will really stand out against the black, especially pastels. This not only softens up the harsh black but also helps your jewelry make even more of a statement.
Especially at this time of year, you want to lighten up your black top a little bit with lighter bottoms whether it is a colored skirt or shorts or lighter wash jeans. I’ve never been a fan of the super light-wash jeans, but these mid-range wash work just fine for me when I am wearing a lighter top or looking to mix up my typically dark jeans look.
Once you have the top and bottom figured out, it is all about accessories…in this case, shoes and a purse. I love a dark chunky heel. There is something so classic about it and it instantly makes my outfit. I just recently got these as my “anesthesia shoes” after some medical procedures. Check back at this post for the whole “anesthesia shoe” story. But they are absolutely fabulous. The heel height is perfect and I love the suede and pointed toe.
The finishing touch for this outfit was just a little pop of color with my bag. I’ve been wearing a lot of neon and decided to take a slight break, so pastel pink was the perfect solution. Until next time, XO

Hello all! I think by now we can all admit that I have an obsession with everything pink. However, it hasn’t always been like that. In fact, I refused to even wear pink until I got to college! I guess now, I’m making up for lost time! HA!
But, in all seriousness, pink and really colors in general are a newer addition to my wardrobe. My first inclination, especially if I’m not paying addition is to wear all neutrals. For me, that doesn’t necessarily mean all black, but more that there is not a statement pop of color.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I love that pink and other colors are now a part of my wardrobe. But, at the same time, there is something to be said about an all neutral outfit. The lack of color always makes me feel a little classier in any outfit.
Wearing all neutrals is also an excellent opportunity to break some of those tried and true fashion rules that I don’t believe in like not mixing metals, not wearing black and navy together, or not mixing black and brown. When you have an all neutral outfit, these combinations normally pop and look amazing together.
So give the color a break every once in a while and give neutral a try! Until next time, XO
Hello all! I hope your week has been fabulous so far! Mine has been crazy busy getting back into the swing of things after Rome, but it has definitely been nice to be back. Vacations are incredible, but it is always nice to come home and sleep in your own bed and get back to your routine.
As I mentioned, spring has definitely sprung here in North Carolina. Yesterday, it was almost 80 degrees! Spring is by far my favorite season because I love transitional clothing. It is always just the right amount of warmth that I don’t freeze, but cool enough that I can still layer. Plus, by this time every year, I am absolutely sick of my winter wardrobe and ready for something new!
When I walked into work on Monday wearing this outfit, one of my coworkers immediately asked me how I managed to wear black and navy together and not look weird. My other coworker overheard and commented that I just decided they looked good together and walked out of the house.
As crazy as that sounds, mixing colors and patterns or trying new things is really that easy. When you decide you look awesome in an outfit, you carry yourself differently. You stand a little taller and strut your stuff a little more. With that going for you, no one will question your fashion choices, they will just comment on how great you look and admire your confidence.
The key for me when wearing anything, whether it’s adventurous or a simple t-shirt in jeans, is to feel confident and beautiful. If you like what your are wearing, at the end of the day, does it really matter what any one else thinks? I don’t think so! For once, prioritize yourself and wear what you want!
I know that can all be a little difficult sometimes though and it is helpful to have tangible tips in addition to my philosophical ramblings. So, when mixing black and navy, I always like to choose a darker shade of navy. That way, it is closer to black and they are similar tones. Mix it up with some neutral jewelry and don’t try and over do it. Start easy with a navy top and a black cardigan or a black top and jeans. And then just add some gold earrings or a necklace.
We make wearing black and navy together so hard because it is an old stigma. But, black and navy want to go together! They look good against one another and normally once you start pairing them, it becomes incredibly easy to do so. Until next time, XO
This sweater has turned out to be my favorite piece that I own this winter. I was a little concerned about how often I would wear a poncho-like sweater that is difficult to layer, but it is so cozy and comfortable that I end up wearing it all the time! Moral of this story? Every outfit does not have to be complicated. Sometimes it is nice to just have a simple, but refined look. XO
Hello all! I was not joking when I said it was winter here! Yesterday it didn’t even get above freezing, which for North Carolina is pretty cold. But I stayed pretty warm in my winter gear. My coat is the same one from last year and is one of my favorite things in my closet. It has a bunch of pockets, is easy to layer under, and is super warm- perfect for walking to class or going to work. My gloves are brand new, Mom gave them to me for Christmas. My hands are always cold, but they are very small so I have always had a hard time finding gloves to fit me. These are perfect. I love the bright blue too because it adds that awesome pop of color to my very dark winter wardrobe. My trusty pink purse also helped with the lack of color 🙂 I can never get it to work with the widget, so here is the link…I would highly recommend it. I mean y’all see how often I use it! How are y’all surviving in the cold? XO

Hello from the beautiful and warm Costa Rica! We have only been here for one whole day and it has already been an adventure. Yesterday, we went on a hike through the rain forest, in the rain, to see an incredible waterfall. It was a little challenge at parts, especially post-surgery, but so worth it! We have also had quite a few encounters with nature already. We have seen a two-toed and a three-toed sloth, which I couldn’t be more excited about. We also saw these adorable little raccoon like creatures this morning from our room. They were incredible friendly and I ended up having to close the door so they wouldn’t come inside! All in all though, a wonderful and relaxing trip so far!
You might have noticed the new theme. My sister, Natalie, gave it to me for Christmas. I am still working out the kinks so if there are any problems, please let me know. I would also love to hear all of your feedback! Hopefully we will have even more nature adventures before tomorrow! XO
As you know, I recently had surgery and my mom has this fabulous rule that every time you need anesthesia, you also need a new pair of shoes. These shoes we have dubbed anesthesia shoes and mine are the ones above! First of all, this is an awesome tradition that I would definitely recommend introducing in your family. Secondly, these shoes are awesome. They are Freebird by Steve which is the luxury version of Steve Madden. I just recently discovered this line and they have some great shoes. I love these because they are the perfect height for me in a bootie and they are secretly platforms so they are very easy to walk in and extremely comfortable. Have a wonderful Friday! XO
Hello! How is everyone doing? I am so excited to be back! Surgery went very well, but it left me bed-ridden and slow to my feet. I am finally starting to feel like myself again although I can’t wear jeans or any pants with a button yet. In their stead, I have been wearing my running tights from lululemon. I have never been a sweatpants kind of girl, but these pants are so incredibly comfortable and are perfect for wearing with flowy shirts and sweaters.
As usual for December in North Carolina, the weather has been crazy weird, but let’s me experiment with lots of different clothes and outfits. Now that I am feeling better, get ready for lots of posts! I hope you are enjoying your December so far and for all of you students out there…I hope your finals went smashingly! XO
Turtlenecks have always been one of my favorite things. When I had short hair, they were a necessity especially in winter to keep my neck warm. Now, they are just my favorite piece to wear no matter what season. This turtleneck from J.Crew is my absolute favorite for a couple of reasons. One, the color, which I like to call Merlot. Depending on what I pair it with it is either a dark purple or reddish purple. Jewel tones are always a good color for me so that was a no-brainer. Two, it is a thin material so it is extremely easy to layer when it’s colder and a great transitional piece. It comes in quite a few colors and I would definitely recommend it! XO
